  1. With #14 begins a mix of cover types with a few like this more of a whimsical nature. Later on Miss Masque dominates and oftentimes quite literally
  2. The only PLOD of this run. I thought about trying to replace my PLODs but money, scarcity, more competition, and I am too tired to mess with this collection any more. But the #11 still has a great cover with the heroes kicking some Tono and Hirohito behinds.
  3. The first Crippen makes its appearance (with the unfortunate foxing and/or sun shadows prevalent on many of Davis' books). Schomburg throws in a Schicklgruber picture amongst the rubble
  4. For me, they were all expensive but some yes, I paid high money for my Startling 49 but nothing like what it would be now and I have a nice 6.0 (bought raw) of Exciting 39 that I couldn't even touch now.
  5. If I remember correctly, there are 331 for all issues but I have so many dupes, I haven't even counted them all yet. We'll see at the end as I go through and sort and photo them.
  6. The America's Best Comics run contains a high saturation of Davis Crippen pedigree copies as you'll see here - maybe not a highly regarded ped but still nice for me. To start with, two copies of #1. I think I bought the 5.0 from Mark Zaid, the other was a raw that had graded.
  7. I hope this thread doesn't come across as being egotist. Earlier this year, I finished a nearly 20 year collecting goal. I set about to complete all the titles of America's Best Comics, Black Terror. Exciting Comics, Fighting Yank, Startling Comics, Thrilling Comics, and Wonder Comics. After the long pursuit, I found the last book I needed (actually I found two coverless copies and a complete albeit restored copy but it was enough for me to finish). All books are CGCed. Not an overly high grade collection but some are nice, some lower grade, many mid-graders, some PLODS and even some peds scattered about as well. Hidden minor agenda with this thread - I have been on the boards for over 10 years and am not an overly abundant poster but gosh darned it, I would like to move up from Total Newbie to Seasoned Veteran So going to start with America's Best Comics and post as I am able to. If anyone thinks this is a socially crappy faux pas, let me know and I cut it off. If not, thanks for allowing me to share some of my collection.
  8. Really whatever catches my eye. GGA, serials, sci-fi, universal monsters but mainly 1930s thru the 1950s. Yes I changed my avatar. Had won the Zombies of the Stratosphere full sheet so switched up my avatar.
  9. I use gavelsnipe mostly because it works on Ebay, HA, and Movie Poster Exchange (I dabble in vintage movie posters as well). Yeah the double cover is always fun on a GA book especially. I am always hesitant to buy raw on Ebay but again I was trying to finish that run out so went for it. I did ask for a page count before I bid which I always do on raws.
  10. Sorry for the mess - I have never dealt with Prez but seems like a hoser. The comments above by him are pure wussiness but I have to admit, it made me chuckle that someone would actually "threaten" this. He thinks highly of his time evidently and even though I am retired, I'd take that job paying $50/hr
  11. I tracked it just of curiosity. A few years ago, I won a copy with a similar story from the seller. I was finishing up my National/Uncle Sam Quarterly run although these were not in as much demand (or at least went for less) although they came up rarely. I had my copy graded. Love that run and the Uncle Sam cover Nationals. So happy to finish it out. Lots of great "should be" classic covers, in my opinion. Sorry about getting glitched. That has happened to my a few times. Once or twice on HA as well as Ebay but I use a freebie sniping service so can't complain. It works more than 99% of the time. My copy.
  12. Torch frying Nazis before the US entered the war - love the covers showing being proactive, early-adopters to stop the "Nazi Horde." Great book.
  13. Ebay should do what Heritage does. When there is a change made on a lot you are watching or have bid on, you get an email of changes you are interested in. Personally, I think if you have bid on an item and there is a change, you should have the option to cancel your bid. That may already be an option - I am not sure. Thanks for sharing, RM - a seller I will stay away from.
