  1. Nice books and selection. I have like the cover on this and the note of a musty smell made me think - well, it should that mummy has been wrapped in stinky bandages for a couple thousand years, after all. (Well-played, sir )
  2. Never seen this cover. It's creepy, sad, chaotic, devilishly accusatory, beautifully composed and I'm sure there are other descriptors and yet I can't turn away - it captivates me. I like it.
  3. It is a strong auction. Bids for most I was interesting are already out of my reach. Granted my reach isn't too long but I feel purty diminutive. The AC vs. Tec is going to be really interesting. I predict a high pockets will grab them both and I have no clue which will end higher.
  4. Stan Lee Solvent DNA sounds less cool than the KISS blood ink in the Marvel Super Special Book - My OO copy although I wasn't much of a KISS fan in teen-age years, I snatched this off the stands. Always thought I might catch something if I actually touched the printed ink At least since I have had it slabbed, all is safely plasticized.
  5. This is a great cover - so many things going on besides the blow innuendo - Tessie looks like she is spitting not blowing on the cake. How are the candles still lit? That is one powerful fan - must be 220 and not 110. One deadly looking cake knife laying there. Tessie's beau sure has a rather large hand. And best of all, Jughead makes a non-Archie comics appearance on the cover.
  6. Snake - were you able to pick up a copy in your WTB thread? I saw THB sent you a PM and hoping you may have been to close a deal
  7. He was very good. Did I not read that he was a fanatic for historic accuracy regarding guns, aircraft, etc. He wanted to make sure everything was to period in the strips he drew. Seems like that was in an old CBM or Alter-Ego article. Great selection of books, Jim.
  8. They do have their own style for sure. Jack Cole was outrageous (in a good way), I guess one benefit of heavy alcohol usage.
  9. It took me 17 years to finish the seven bigger titles of Nedor/Standard/Pines published books. The last one was Startling #15. I found two coverless copies which I bought/won and then the raw, nice copy turned up - all three copies within 3-4 months. It's not like I found the other 330+ issues all at the beginning but this one eluded the longest of all of them. Exciting #17 was the second to last book which I actually got through a WTB here on the boards. I got that about a year before I found the Startling. America's Best, Black Terror, Fighting Yank, Wonder, I was able to finish over a 4-5 years but since they are shorter runs 20-30 issue, makes sense. Thrilling was next and I was lucky enough to grab some undercopies of several issues of a boardie who used to be on here and had uber high grade copies of some and other titles and his unders weren't too shabby. But 17 years of searching (and with multiple copies won/purchased for some upgrading). I was a young man when I started the insanity of completionism and the Nedors were the poor man's Timelys. Not too long after I started, they were not just for the poor as prices shot up. I don't want to think about how much I dropped into this collection especially with the grading, undercopies/upgrades, etc. All issues are now CGC graded (except the Startling and it is at CGC now). Good luck and I know you have been patient. My advice outside of more patience is if you see one, grab it even at a high price (if you can afford it). Overstrteet is not a good measure of prices, especially GA books. Look at GGA, PCH, and so many others - they go for multiple of guide. Use GPA but with many GA books, current price levels may be scarce.
  10. Go here - the CGC Census - https://www.cgccomics.com/census/index.asp One in 9.8 assume Mile High copy? One in 9.4 One in 9.2 (not sure if that is yours because not sure when you had it graded. Takes a week I think for census to update. Forgot to add - the census is not 100% as resubs without returning the label would cause the old listing to stay on the census. For example, the 9.4 could have been cracked, pressed and resubbed and resulted in the 9.8 so it is the same book. THIS IS JUST AN EXAMPLE but is possible and does happen. Resubs do not always result in a higher grade and it could lower or remain the same but without the label being submitted, the census would show the same book twice.
  11. Have you asked the seller if there is any restoration/conservation? I also ask the seller to count the pages (I only buy GA books so missing CFs are possible. You should give the seller a chance plus it sets you in a better position if the seller says no and it comes back. Also why not ask if the seller does say no resto/conser what is the return policy if some is discovered? Remember the seller could always say it wasn't there when they sent the book so ask for more pictures if necessary especially inside the covers to possibly note CT and around the staples too.
  12. That's really cool. GA kid friendly comics and loving family - your granddaughter already has a headstart on other kids. Thanks for sharing.
  13. You should post in the sales discussion area here
  14. I have never seen a copy for sale myself. Thx Rick. Jeff
  15. I am assuming you have noticed this Qualified raw copy from Gary Dolgoff on Ebay - https://www.ebay.com/itm/Captain-Marvel-Adventures-128-Q-Fawcett-Comics-1952-SHAZAM-c-17368/352276636605?epid=85400791&hash=item520552e3bd:g:8TYAAOSwk6xafLY4 I had no idea this book was that desirable - another reason I love the boards (well, at least the GA forum )
  16. They have the Green Hornet radio show (not sure how many but I saw some), they also have the video serial from the 40s, as well as Green Hornet comics. If you can't find what you're looking for, just do a search for OTR downloads and there are a slew of good sites to find shows. If she or you like Green Hornet, try Blue Beetle, the Avenger, the Shadow, etc. Did you know the Green Hornet is related to the Lone Ranger. Fro Wiki.... One relatively minor aspect of the character that tends to be given limited exposure in the actual productions is his blood relationship to the Lone Ranger, another character created by Striker. The Lone Ranger's nephew was Dan Reid. In the Green Hornet radio shows, the Hornet's father was likewise named Dan Reid, making Britt Reid the Lone Ranger's grandnephew. In the November 11, 1947, radio show episode "Too Hot to Handle", Britt tells his father that he, Britt, is the Green Hornet. After Dan's initial shock and anger, Dan refers to a vigilante "pioneer ancestor" of theirs that Dan himself had ridden alongside in Texas. As he expressed pride in and love for his son, the Lone Ranger theme briefly played in the background. The Lone Ranger property was sold to another company in the 1950s, which resulted in a legal complication that precluded The Lone Ranger being directly associated with the Green Hornet. This complication was later resolved in a comic book cross-over published by Dynamite Entertainment. And one thing that has always bothered me is why the Green Hornet's car is called Black Beauty and not Green Beauty. Isn't that like calling the Batmobile, the Sparrowmobile?
  17. Yeah there is all kinds of stuff on the site. They even have scanned issues of comics that are in the public domain.
  18. The Superman Radio Program began airing February 12, 1940. I am a big OTR fan and noticed this while downloading some OTR shows to my phone. Bud Collyer was a great Kent/Supes, I thought. Lots of great pulp/comic heroes had their own radio shows. Some programs survived on TV, reusing some radio scripts often. My favorite radio program was the Shadow, among others Orson Welles was one who portrayed the Shadow/Lamont and Agnes Moorehead (Bewitched fame) was one who portrayed Margo Lane. In case you are interested there are lots of sites to grab free (legal) downloads of all kinds of shows. Here is the link on archives.org for their offerings of the Supes show. Unless you're driving while listening, close you eyes and venture back almost four scores for some great adventure. https://archive.org/details/superman_otr Sorry for the PSA, carry-on...
  19. Rick, your sales threads and collection never cease to amaze me. Rare to find such incredible offerings and a great person to deal with.
  20. Steve, he is still around under evolving Ebay monikers, correct?
  21. That is actually pretty close. Lone Star grades the book for consignment and emails the consignor they can list or put in auction. If a for sale listing, Lone Star provides recent sales data of similarly graded books and suggests to price the book accordingly. I don't remember if there is no recent sales data if they provide other sources or not or suggestions. With all that, the consignor can set whatever price he/she wishes. The process is simple for the consignor - all data is available, unfortunately the consignor sometimes thinks their book worth more and sets a ridiculous price. Lone Star did some time back add a disclaimer on the Ebay listing that says (sorry for the small image - I pulled it from one their Ebay listings) BTW, the book will be cheaper on their site: I haven't consigned in some time so this could have changed and I only did so a few times.
