  1. The HA 9.6 almost looks trimmed. It may have been pressed to death. Almost looks artificial. I love books with the natural hangover from age. Yeah, I'm still a dinosaur. The Bitcoin audience will be fighting over the book.
  2. Yeah there was a helluva Spidey 1 (9.0) in there. Couldn't afford both.
  3. Happy 60th FF. No matter what they say about Spidey, you started it all.
  4. That's the 2 pages that made history. The origin of the FF.
  5. The splash page that started it all. Never noticed the orange contrast. Kinda cool.
  6. I was thinking a 3mil price tag on the 9.6. Hmmmmm...
  7. The book should ship fine. Double box it and include the paperwork required by CGC. I just sent off my 8.0 last year to get it reslabbed (slab was a little loose). Think that was tough??? Go for it. Show a pic of it and we'll give it our best guess.
  8. Collections are still unearthed out there. Copies are waiting to be held (or slabbed).
  9. Spidey is a cultural phenomenon. The prices reflect it. Noticed in a Target store last night they had a "Spider-man" display. Clothes, toys, action figures etc all on one display near the front. The Webslinger has gone a long way in 59 years.
  10. I don't think I've ever questioned the price someone has paid for a book. To each his own, pay what you want for what you want.
  11. Consider only BINs instead of auctions. I hate auctions. I can never win auctions due to erratic bidding (yeah, my 2011 HA win was really a BIN) or someone just wants it more. Some Board members sell privately and are well respected.
  12. A shrewd collector may deem this as an "outlier". I don't think someone needs to be finger-pointed or labeled for buying the comic of their dreams (at any price). In 2011 I paid $83k for an 8.0 at HA. I told the personal bidder to take it at any price. At that time, it was a record for an 8.0 and was probably "severely overpaid." Really, I could have cared less if it "made it much harder" for other people to get a comparable copy. What about the buyers of AF15, Action 1 and Bat 1 as of lately? Records were set in those grades.
  13. Congrats! Your first AF15 looks much better than my first. Bought mine in '86 in Little Rock, Ark, at a comic store for $75 and it had 2 rolls of scotch tape on it. Loved it though!
  14. Geez, I hope alot of the older Boardies see this. Just incredible.
  15. Don't mind GK (Gotham Kid), he is still a non believer.
  16. Depends on what someone means by "quite many". I don't consider that quite many. If 100s were in the total lines, then maybe I'd agree. Despite the number of high grade copies, prices still leave this thread in shock. I can see the "shock" in your face.
  17. Not really. 8.0 and above are in much shorter supply than the lower grades. Haven't seen the census on the number of graded copies in awhile so I can't quote the populations.
  18. I know the guys at CL personally and they have a spit-shine image. Anything is possible but you could ask that about any company in any industry.
  19. The Board needs to pause and digest what just happened in this thread. An AF15 8.0 just sold for 300k. Many of us saw the $250k sale a few years ago and were in awe. Now the book has surpassed the $300k plateau. My son just called me and asked "could this grade be a 500k book in 5 years?". The sky is the limit on this book. It's so incredible. I've always said the money is secondary on this book. It's the history, the character, the idea, and the bullpen behind it. I purchased Spidey #73 in a multi bag (4 comics in a bag) at Magic Mart in Pine Bluff, Ark in 1969 and was hooked. May Spidey live on forever.
