Man, that's a loaded question!

Wish you had asked a couple of months ago. I sold Dale Roberts 6 or 8 (can't remember now) short boxes full of pulps at Heroes Con! He picked them up for a friend, so I'm sure their gone.

It depends on what you are looking for.

Cool covers (and there's lots of them!)

Certain authors Like Burroughs, Howard, Bloch?

Certain Series, like Weird Tales, Argosy, Spicy titles?

Or just what ever jumps in front of you?

Lot's and lot's of mid grade pulps to be had for less than $50 each.

Thanks, David. My primary interest is always going to be ERB, but I'm also interested in, well, everything you listed. I like to sample new things, primarily based on the cover or an interesting author.

My guess is that I'm most interested in books that are on a budget (around $50) but that also present fairly well. I know that excludes most of ERB's pulps, but you have to start somewhere.

I love those Argosy issues with ERB and Otis Kline stories.

And those Amazing issues are...amazing.

Awesome books :applause:

I found when I first started collecting pulps that I would try and concentrate on specific titles but ended up buying everything that I could. It's the addiction that never ends.

As with vintage comics, it's worth asking sellers about the page quality if you're not sure and want to know. Some will have brittle page edges, others are extremely supple and bright.

As for the bindings themselves, I don't think pulp bindings are inherently more problematic than, say, the average 1940s comic.

I'd say they're more likely to fall apart. The comics are usually held together by staples while the pulps are usually glue. 80 year old glue does not fare well. Last year I had some pages come loose on me from a nice copy of Astounding, so that's put me off reading nicer books. It surprised me because I thought it was a solid copy, but the glue had just dried out completely. I'm just glad it was an Astounding and not a Weird Tales. I would have lost my $h:t. :ohnoez:

So now I just read books that I'm willing to risk damaging, which for me is just low grade and cheap books.

Where does everyone buy these beautiful books?

There are a couple of pulp conventions that you can go to. I've been to both and it was very fun and you have more pulps than you know what to do with!

Here is a website that sells pulps. You can of course find pulps on Ebay and Heritage sells them most every sunday night.

Here is an interesting website that covers pulps. Look in the book section and they have lots of books on pulps.

This is an extremely helpful book that has listings of nearly every pulp with descriptions of the cover plus pricing. I have one and love it.

Hope this helps some James!

David, those are great links. Thanks for taking the time to post those. And thanks to everyone to offering me some advice.

Although I've been interested in pulps for years, I've hesitated getting into them, just like I hesitated with GA comics. Here's hoping that the pulps will be as rewarding as my (albeit limited) foray into golden age comics.
