With The New Annotated H. P. Lovecraft (2014) currently on the reading table (massive tome, I'm enjoying it a lot), what are your learned opinions as to some of the best pulps that contain Lovecraft stories?

Hi Steve,

Here are the major Lovecraft story appearances I've been able to acquire. Some of his earlier major stories (Dagon, The Nameless City, Herbert West - Reanimator) are very hard to obtain because they were published in small press publications.

Very helpful Todd, thank you!

I'd be interested in all those issues, if I could find them with half-way decent paper.

Copy that regarding the small press publications (e.g., The Vagrant of which I've never seen a copy, but would love to get one).

The New Annotated H.P. Lovecraft is a wonderful new book, only $28 on Amazon which for such a large work is quite a bargain.

The March, 1928 issue of Tales of Magic and Mystery contains Lovecraft's "Cool Air."

Digests - don't have to deal with overhang, just the everyday stuff we're used to. Cute and small, fits right into your pocketbook. I mean, your wife's pocketbook. My wife's pocketbook.

If you're not old enough to know what a pocketbook is, you shouldn't be buying pulps!

Bedsheet - 1933

I prefer the bedsheet size to regular (or digest) size on these.

Being a PQ guy, finding these old books with halfway decent paper is the main reason why my pulp collection is so small.

I now know this is the newbie's pulp - Famous Fantastic Mysteries. Plentiful, sick covers, relatively inexpensive. Trimmed? Most dealers don't tell. For $20, I don't ask. I like a neat book.

I read in pulps a lot and it's great, but fragile books aren't the best format for casual reading- perhaps especially if a lowering of grade meant a significant dollar decrease. Many pulps are fragile, but there are many midgrade solid copies of fun and cool stuff as well.
