And a low grade but what-the-heck-it's-so-rare copy of Fight Stories, July 1929, first Steve Costigan by REH. Cover and back cover have *that* problem, but the rest of the pulp is sound (and it looks rather good in its Mylar). As I already have a Fine copy in my collection, this one is up for grabs, by the way (trade against high to ultra high grade REH pulp).

I picked up a few more hero pulps recently.

Black Hood Detective, Sep 1941 (1st issue). Lower grade, but this one's scarce so you take what you can get. This one features MLJ's Black Hood character who appeared first in comics (Top Notch #9, Oct 1940) and then moved into pulps. The pulp only lasted three issues.

Masked Rider, Apr 1934 (1st issue)

Inspired by the success of the Lone Ranger radio show, this pulp beat the Lone Ranger's own pulp to the stands by three years! This is also a pretty scarce issue.

Phantom Detective, Feb 1933 (1st issue)

One of the big, long-running hero pulps. I was looking for this book for a long time. Finally found one in November that looked OK but the back cover was detached. This copy is a big upgrade over that one. The cover gloss is so pretty on this one.

Also of note to comic fans, this book was published by Martin Goodman in one of his early companies, Ranger Publications.
