For my money, Massachusets is on my very short list of states I'd like to move to.

It's got 4 seasons, nice beaches, mountains close by for skiing, a major metropolitan area close by, pro sports, Boston is an arts mecca, history galore, and the prices are nowhere near as outrageous as many other places.....

 

If she doesn't like your snobby neighbors, change neighborhoods. (shrug)

Move to northern California or southern Oregon. You get a great climate and home prices are becoming more and more reasonable. I've lived a lot of different places in my life and other than Coronado, near San Diego, which has the best year round climate, nothing beats northern california. It shouldn't be any more expensive than where you live now.
