A pretty good looking Thorn Tales from the Lantern is up for bid in ComicLink’s Summer Featured Auction. They say it’s an 8.0 VF, which seems fair to me given the wear on the top and bottom of the spine and the general wear on the edges of the front and back cover. IMHO, it looks better overall than the VF copy on Heritage last December.

What do you guys think?

I think the buyer got a great deal. With the prices I’ve seen on Bone stuff over the last few months, it’s not surprising.

Hmm prices seem to continue to be dropping. It’s not over yet for a few hours but an 8.5 under $1k seems like a good deal.

Heritage had a very interesting auction last night for one of the elusive Bone sketch cards from the first series produced in 1994. This one was graded by CGC which surprised me. I asked them a few years ago why they graded gaming cards but not comic cards so I’m glad this has finally changed :)

As you can probably tell by the avatar I use, this card has always fascinated me. The holy trinity of sketch cards in the early to mid 90s have always been the Art deBart by Matt Groening, the Wildstorm Groo by Sergio Aragones, and Fone Bone by Jeff Smith. I believe the Bone card was the second ever pack-inserted sketch card (after Defective Comics Trading Cards in 1993) as the Barts could only be had via a separate redemption card.

The auction description said that this particular example was from the David Sire collection. Not knowing who this was or what it meant, I did a search and, sure enough, his collection included both a Groo and two different Art deBarts, along with several uncut sheets and numerous autographs cards from the 90s :o

I’ve now seen two of these sketch cards come up for sale in 2024. The last one before these was an eBay BIN back in 2014.

Awesome. Glad it is reinvigorating this hobby for you. Not that it was gone by a longshot, but that it is to reinvest itself or reinvent? Sounds like you'll have some more friends along for the ride.

Anyone going to the Bedrock City Con this weekend?

Well, it looks like I’ll be there. Was scheduled to go last year but Jeff’s heart attack occurred a couple weeks beforehand. Praying nothing like that happens again :wishluck:

‘Will try to take pics but making no promises (I tend to forget about stuff like this lol)

Done for the day. A well put-together con by @MrBedrock so far and I’m sure it will continue tomorrow! Here’s Jeff’s spot in the Artist’s Alley which includes a decent selection of Bone trades along with RASL and Tuki stuff:

I’ve never been to a con where I’m getting stuff signed myself and I didn’t know the facilitator so I was little worried about bringing comics to be signed (especially with the current inner well issue that’s going on). I decided to bring two trades that could survive possible mishandling: Bone More Tall Tales (Uncorrected Proof) and a Bone Coda with the 2016 SDCC bookplate. They’re within the magazine dimensions so I’m hoping there won’t be a problem getting them slabbed.

Got the Tall Tales signed today and he did a Smiley remark :). I only have one other Smiley sketch in my set so this was a nice surprise. Jeff was great and it was nice to finally meet him after 30 years of reading Bone.

Window-bagging books like this is tough. I’m worried about them sliding around so pray for me :wishluck:

I think this will be a 9.6 if nothing else happens to it. The book wasn’t sent to me as a high grade copy so I wasn’t expecting it to be perfect when I got it early last year. It could end up being a 9.8 or possibly a 9.4. I have nothing to compare it to so whatever it gets will be educational.

Amen nerve racking those first go arounds, so prayers on the nerves for sure, it gets better and need something to pass the time well. Did you pay for fast-track? it might could help, but cest la vie, it really is a patience game and very humbling.

I’ve submitted hundreds of books. This is the first time I’ve done it at a con that I’ve attended. Have always used facilitators in the past.

:shy: I knew what you meant. Same thing happened to me, by some miracle it worked out well as a boardie had pmd me to do it for him at a con. I was hesitant or nervous at least

Was too busy today and getting pics just slipped my mind

Got the Bone Coda signed and Jeff did a Fone Bone sketch. This copy is an easy 9.8 if it can avoid any unfortunate mishandling :wishluck:

Jeff was in good spirits both times I saw him this weekend so everything I’ve ever heard about him is true. If you’ve ever thought about going to one of his appearances, I highly recommend it!
