Doohickamabob
So, who got into the bidding war on Cinderella Love #27? This is a $10-to-$20 book according to Overstreet. The auction ended March 30, 2010, and two bidders drove up the price from around $50 to a final bid of $275. And not even for that nice a copy! It HAD to be somebody here. JvR11
Not me, but that is a key book so I don't doubt the price. I paid an arm and leg for my copy.
seank
Some of you may not be aware of this book. Dated 1952 with rebound romance issues, the entire book! Six Baker stories plus one Kubert and Estrada. The back cover is completely blank as are the inside front and back covers. Exception selection of artwork. The front cover just makes no sense with the content inside. How common is it to see St. John books with the covers blank? Someone else here speculated they could be Canadian editions. Any further information you could provide about that situation to a St. John neophyte?

LINK OK, I was the 2nd underbidder. I was sitting pretty for a couple of days, then one of the other bidders came back to outbid me. Then I outbid him, and said to hell with it. The next morning another underbidder came back to outbid, then he was outbid by the guy I outbid. Does that make sense? Glad I kept my money, I don't like popped staples especially on top (comic has more of a chance of sliding away from the cover in a mylar). As for Overstreet, when it comes to St. John's romance, and especially Cinderella Love, I don't even bother to open it up. That's for sure! Yeah, there was quite a bidding war there. Is this a key in terms of its content, or just an especially rare / low-distribution issue? Yeah, there was quite a bidding war there. Is this a key in terms of its content, or just an especially rare / low-distribution issue? Just a tuff book with a nice Baker cover. No Baker contents ( none of the CL's had any). CL's have been really hot for a while now, and if you only need one...
ComicWhiz
As the seller of the book I was astounded at the final price. This came out of a lot of GA Romance books that was on ebay a few weeks ago and was listed as one of the books available. Since I do not personally collect Baker books, I had no idea of scarcity of Cinderalla Love. Always learning something new in the hobby. My many thanks to all who bid on the book. I rarely get on boards but someone filled me in on the discussion. Thought I would put my 27,500.00 cents in.

BB-Gun
You people rule when it comes to these Baker comics. I can't imagine ever having a collection nearly as impressive. Now for a few questions, which you can answer at your convenience... (1) What are the Top 10 Baker romance comic issues? (2) What are the Top 10 most valuable Baker romance issues? (3) What are the Top 10 sexiest Baker romance issues? (4) What are the Top 10 non-romance Baker comic issues? Answer preferably with 10 photos placed in neat 5x2 rows for maximum effect! Like this? In no special order but I don't have either of the Giants which may make the list and the later Teen-age Romance are also not in my collection of scans. Here is a bunch more to pick from Someone posted a Crime Almanac scan on GAC or GAUK but it needed some work. It looks like pretty good Baker art on Phantom Lady once you clean it up. Not sure which issue it is. Edited June 27, 2010 by BB-Gun

JvR11
Here's a PL splash page from PL16 that I cleaned up in a little in Photoshop. I really like the "red riding hood" parallel with this story. Really great read!
JvR11
I posted this in another thread a little while back...here's a group shot of WR's. I just completed the run recently. IMO, the most difficult one to get is WR3. I've never seen one for sale on ebay. I hope I can upgrade mine one day. The one I have is pretty low grade. My favorite cover is WR16, followed by WR5 and WR8. My group shot is in order if you count through you can see which issues I am referring too Edited June 27, 2010 by JvR11
comicnoir
I've heard the #3 is tough- strangely enough that was the first Baker romance I ever picked up - in solid 5.0 Never seen another. Edited June 28, 2010 by comixnoir

Many of those covers I've never seen, and then there are the handful that seem to turn up on a regular basis. (Why is that?) I do have one request for you, which is to sometime post a pic that shows all the covers. I do not mean to look a gifthorse in the mouth, I'd just like to see 'em in full glory sometime. This would be too large for one group shot. No, I mean the Wartime Romances collection. Your photo shows them fanned out, which only partially displays the covers. Like I said, I realize I'm lookin' a gift-horse in the mouth here. But if you ever have them all out again, and find an easy way to arrange them so the full covers show, that would make a neat photo. Naturally, if you had any of the other titles out, I wouldn't turn away from looking at a cool group shot of those either. In fact, if you ever have free time and feel over-caffeinated, you really should photograph your complete collection of St. John comics -- you know, for insurance purposes! (And for us to drool over.) I wouldn't expect that you'd lay them all out for one big group shot, but rather take separate photos, grouped by name or genre. Then again, you could just ignore my suggestions. Always a safe bet!
