There was no description other than "Poor", which could mean a missing centerfold.  I messaged the seller with a couple simple questions, but he never responded, so I decided not to take any chances.  Too bad, too- I might've paid just over 1K for a very low grade but complete copy that looked like that one.

I thought it wasn't a bad looking "poor", so my immediate concern was, was it complete? I'm sure that kept the price from going higher, but you never see a copy on ebay.

Lubbers did 1, 2, and 3 for sure, but nether 10 nor 12 look like him to me.  Most books I've seen for which he did a cover he also did interior stories...which is not the case in 10 or 12.

I also don't see Lubbers for 10 or 12.

The artist for 12 is quite good and the central portrait was drawn in a similar fashion to Morris Gollub's back covers for Dell.  The silhouettes of #12 are good as well.

That looked like a nice copy.  I threw down a bid, but was focused more on the DC romance in that auction.  Kinda blown away by the prices for those...

I've thrown out a thesis before - Spidey was doomed to fail under Ditko. Great idea, so so execution. Romita exploded it in no small part due to Gwen and MJ hotness. Expertise gained through years of anonymous toil doing DC romance and only DC romance, day after day after day.

Romita romance, midgrade or better, is hard to come by. Undervalued, at least until this year. That Heart Throbs 79 went for a pretty price, but it's a beautiful piece of work, one of his best.

I'm having to expand my romance focus because of these newbie Baker collectors digging into an already scarce supply.  ;)  The Romita romance is awesome, but according to HA auction archives it appears that prices are way down (look at My Love #1).  Maybe with the heat on Baker, collectors like me are shifting their focus to the next best thing?  I was more interested in some of the others over HT79.  Secret Hearts 78 and 90 are more appealing to me.  I did win that nice Colletta Love Romances 43.

Guess I was wrong! Pretty sure I said something like 5k.... one can only wonder how a CL 25 in that grade could do at auction now...

Two Baker St John romance books that are both highest graded CGC 7.5 copies:

Strong GGA:  https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/romance/teen-age-romances-9-st-john-1950-cgc-vf-75-off-white-to-white-pages/a/7189-91081.s?type=bidnotice-endofauction

Weak GGA:  https://comics.ha.com/itm/golden-age-1938-1955-/romance/going-steady-10-st-john-1954-cgc-vf-75-off-white-pages/a/7189-93066.s?type=bidnotice-endofauction

We've seen this kind of difference before, but these results seem particularly striking to me.  (I wasn't the buyer or the consignor of either copy.)

Bottom line = sex sells
