X-MEN 94 CGC 9.6

484 posts in this topic

No extra X-Men 94's in NM, but I do have a nice stack of GS X-Men 1's. grin.gif

And of course, you must see the irony in asking me to sell at a lower-than speculator rate, as you'd just resell at a fleecing rate and make me an accessory.

I already learned that lesson of selling/trading at collector rates and then seeing the books change hands a week later. Me no fall for dat.

Very nice, chuck up a scan or 2 of them!

I think I'm gonna leave my collection alone for a bit, as it gives me a headache when I see how many dupes I have of some issues (esp ASM 101-175 makepoint.gif).

Plus, I had to move them to a more out-of-the-way place in preparation for the holidays, and I'm not opening that can of worms.

Who cares? The day I need to make my money selling funny books will be a dark one indeed.

If we rewind the clock to about two years ago--back when you started www.comicinvestor.com --things didn't look that way. What made you ditch that mindset and identity? Been reading lots of hard-line socialist/Marxist philosophy since then? stooges.gif

And speaking of that, how come a WHOIS lookup on comicinvestor.com brings up some guy in Russia's info now as having registered the domain name earlier this month? Did you give the domain up, or is this a comrade of yours? gossip.gif

Just to jump into this little sign-rantpost.gif that's brewing. How is he fleecing someone if they freely bid for it??

I really don't want to get into this, but it all comes down to personal preference.

I used to buy collections for my own consumption, and since I have a fat bank account and still have contacts, I could easily jump into the CGC game and make some serious cash.

To be honest, I have given this some thought and almost sent out some feelers, but I simply do not feel comfortable selling anything at such inflated prices. It doesn't matter if it's comics, cards or basically anything, I just can't willingly take advantage of a speculator market, even to the point of keeping multiple keys sitting in Mylars.

I choose not to join in the madness, while others do. I'm not right and they're wrong, there's nothing illegal or totally unethical about it, and I think it really comes down to my unwillingness to contribute to the boom/bust cycle, either on the buying or selling end of things.

Once the Reaper comes calling and the bankruptcies start, I'll have a clear conscience.

You are so full of sanctimonious garbage.

If a single word of what you were saying was true, what better action could you take than to have your imaginary stack of NM GSX 1's slabbed and offer all those CGC 9.6's at half the current market rates to those gullible and susceptible suckers who are being fleeced ? Your conscience would be really clean then. insane.gif

That's more than a little presumptuous of you. Of course I would like to buy comics for my collection as cheaply as possible but I actually buy comics for the art, not to speculate, you may not be a fool but you're not polite either....

Hey, I don't know you from Adam, and have no reason to trust your motives. Hard experience will teach you that.

Do you actually read what you type, or just let your chimp do the editing?

Why would selling CGC 9.6 issues, and letting speculators flip them for even more market-killing profit be BETTER than just holding them and staying out of the fray.

Of course, I'm assuming you see comics as something other than $$$.

Grrr, you know as well as I do that I requested Arch delete my CI account (due to harassment), and I've even gone back to my old Avatar so that even the slack-jawed yokels are covered off.

As for CI, I started that up right at the beginning of the CGC wave, and didn't know how insane and over-valued the comics biz would become. I saw the same thing in sportscards and coins, but for some reason, I thought comic collectors were a smarter breed.

So yeah, I dumped the site and someone else nabbed it. Couldn't be happier for him, as it's one less thing I have to worry about.

If someone offers me $2K for a comic that sold for $7K, and wants me to think they will NEVER resell or trade it at current, inflated market values, then be prepared for a little "real world" analysis of flipping and profiteering.

I may sell my collection one day but not for profiteering, that's (still) not why I'm interested in comics. The £2k price was scarcasm something you understood about 10 posts ago!

Look at that FF 16 9.0 - I paid not much more than that for a 9.2 last year!

DAMMIT!!! That book is up over $800 now--a new record for FF 9.0 copies in that range! And I fell asleep on the couch to miss that book when it went for around $450 a few months ago! foreheadslap.giffrown.gifforeheadslap.giffrown.gifforeheadslap.giffrown.giffrown.giffrown.gif

On the up side, the FF movie has been delayed, so maybe movie hype prices will be delayed...or even better...never materialize at all! 893crossfingers-thumb.gif

Of course, but they're usually not in CGC 9.6 slabs and don't attract enough interest for a huge CGC Forum thread.

And to think, I watched it sitting on his website for months thinking...."it will never sell for $850". Shoulda/Coulda/Woulda nabbed it when we had the chance James.... crazy.gif
