As part of my on-going (no off an on) comic and trading card slab scanning project the box containing my Machine Man's  (or is it Machine Men?) floated to the top.

#1 was self-submit of $2 raw purchase I made in 1998. It can't been seen in the scans but the gloss and on this one is amazing so I could not care less that the wrap is not perfect. I do wonder if the slightly oc wrap did prevent it from receiving a 9.9? Its one of the nicest books I've ever submitted, razor sharp, glossy, perfect spine and flawless back.

#10 My favorite Machine Man cover. While the title was before my time it was the first childhood Machine Man  In the early days of the CGC census I noticed there was 1 copy and hoped it would come up for sale - well it did, 15 or so year later... I ended up winning it for less than the expense of grading.  Perhaps the OW/W pages turned off the WP crowd but to have the only 9.8 in original old school CGC Slab Label is priceless to me.

Great book!,  That said, I don't think even CGC has any idea what the difference is between a 9.8 and a 9.9.  I think the 9.9 and 10.0 grades are just silly.

Very nice.  I have a decent, mid-grade raw copy and thought about pursuing a higher grade, slabbed one to complete my Bats Adams "key" books, but lost interest when these got pricey a few years ago.

What printing is that one?

I believe it is the third print. As mentioned above the First print is $1 . The second is $1.25 and Third is $1.50

I just found my notes from Richard Pini.

ElfQuest #2 (first publication by WaRP Graphics)

1st printing - $1.00 cover price

2nd printing - $1.25 cover price

3rd printing - $1.25 cover price

4th printing - $1.50 $1.25 cover price  [EDIT: I was mistaken, this is a $1.25 cover price, not $1.50]

5th printing - $1.50 cover price

6th printing - $1.50 cover price

By the way, ElfQuest #1 with the $1.00 cover price was produced the same month as ElfQuest #4.

So how do you distinguish between second and third if they both have the $1.25 CP? Mine has the $1.50 cover price, but the indica says $1.25.

I just double-checked the notes and it's only 5th and 6th printing that have $1.50 cover price.

It's got to be either 5th (April 1981) or 6th (September 1981), but unless there's a date somewhere, I don't know how to tell.

Only date I see is on the indica and inside cover . They are both dated 1978. (shrug)

Thank you anyway.

I've been trying to find a photo reference for how to tell the editions apart.  Except for the cover price ($1.00 = 1st, $1.25 = 2nd,3rd,4th, and $1.50 = 5th,6th) and the 2nd printing $1.25 cover has a $5.00 subscription price, I don't know of any differences.  There's not a note of difference for $1.25 3rd and $1.25 4th, or a difference for $1.50 5th and $1.50 6th.

Thank you. I also just dropped all this in the Elfquest application thread to see if those there may be able to help.
