What's your favorite quote from a comic?

137 posts in this topic

I was just thinking about the great lines I've read in comic books and a few of them really stand out.

My favorites are:

"You gotta be one of the good guys, cuz there's way too many of the bad."

- Jesse Custer's dad in Preacher 7?

"A pair of deuces ain't much, but sometimes it's a winning hand."

- Yorick in Y: The Last Man

What are some of your favorites?

100th post!! Finally!!!!

Slow down there son, you can't go posting all willy nilly now.

Quote from 2008 that stuck with me: "I'm the @%&!! BATGIRL!"

My favorites:

"It's clobbering time".

"Hulk smash".

Honorable mentions:

"Holy -------- (insert whatever is pertinent at the time) Batman!"

"Up, up and away" (or is that only in the TV show?).

Some that no one else will post:

"Clark, why do you always disappear when trouble appears?".

"Eh, what's up Doc?". (is that only in the TV shows also?)

The longest one I know by heart:

"In brightest day, in blackest night,

No evil shall escape my sight.

Let those who worship evils might,

beware my power, Green Lanterns light".

"Burn." - Superman Annual 11. Within the scene, that one word carries an incredible amount of weight.

"Sorry, I'd rather not rule the Earth. I just want to marry the girl next door and live in the suburbs!" - T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents 4. That quote tells you everything you need to know about Dynamo.

Then, (Thanks again Grails) there's this quote:

"My apologists have claimed the car that I first hurled at Bates was empty, those who'd been inside having previously escaped. I'm sorry, but that isn't true." - Miracleman 15

That thing... it's awesome, but it's messed up... which was probably the point.

The photograph is in my hand. It is the photograph of a man and a woman. They are at an amusement park in 1959. In twelve seconds time, I drop the photograph to the sand at my feet, walking away. It’s already lying there, twelve seconds into the future. Ten seconds now.

The photograph is still in my hand. I found it in a derelict bar at the Gila Flats Test Base, twenty-seven hours ago. It’s still there, twenty-seven hours into the past, in its frame, in the darkened bar. I’m still there looking at it. The photograph is in my hand. The woman takes a piece of popcorn between her thumb and forefinger. The ferris wheel pauses. Seven seconds now.

It’s October 1985. I’m on Mars. It’s July, 1959. I’m in New Jersey, at the Palisades Amusement Park. Four Seconds. Three.

I’m tired of looking at the photograph now. I open my fingers. It falls to my feet. I am going to look at the stars. They are so far away, and their light takes so long to reach us…

All we ever see of stars are their old photographs.

My favorite tagline is...

"On the rangy plains of the Wild West rides a man named Jonah Hex, who has no companions save two: death itself, and the acrid smell of gunsmoke!"

(There are actually a couple different versions.)

Robin: Let's hope we spot the Spinner today, Bruce.

Batman: Right, . As Batman and Robin, we've got to check every place that deals with spinning objects.

Ahhh the golden age, how far out of context can your quotes be taken?
