Those are great late-run issues to have!!! They're MUCH harder to find in decent shape at the end of the run!!! I'd be very happy to have both of them!!!

It is all about the Timely's! With current prices being what they are I'm opening up to restoration more and more.

 wondered that.. The date stamp here on this Torch 8 looks reminiscent to a SF... Thoughts?

Yeah, many Friscos from that period have a similar inked arrival date. Is there an inked Riley stamp on the back cover? The majority of the Friscos I've seen from this time period have that Riley stamp on the back cover somewhere. Btw, that's an incredible copy you've got there!!! One of my favorites and an excellent example of why Alex Schomburg is one of my favorite Golden Age artists!!!

The date stamp is inconsistent, but noteworthy. The Riley stamp on back is the more common indicator when present followed by a penciled squiggle ("g" or "G") and date. Example added below...

HT #8 is a great book and the last Schomburg cover to feature the Torch & Subby facing off in combat. Of the six main battle books (MMC #8-10; HT #5, 8 &10), technically seven if one includes the lead-in from MMC #7 which introduces the epic battle coming in the next issue at the end of the HT story. There are only three covers portraying the epic fire vs water combat: MM#9, HT#5B and HT#8. All books in this series are brilliantly conceived setting Timely apart from the competition.

Just for grins, here are my copies (still missing MMC #9 & 10; very tough books)...

Love all those books! Almost bought a #5 at the collector's summit but fortunately noticed it had rust before plopping down the money. Do have this though.

It's always been unfortunate (in my opinion), that Subby has gotten the short shrift when it comes to Marvel Mystery covers. Oh sure, he got some, but in the first dozen Marvel covers, he only got TWO solo covers, while the Angel got FIVE!!! Yes, we've all read how Martin Goodman liked and had high hopes for the Angel character, but by the twelfth issue, it became clearer to them who was selling the mags! Then there are the shared covers of the Human Torch and Subby, either facing off against each other or working together ... and those are great! It's hard to beat Marvel 9 or 15 and those two are high on my list of favorites. I count only five solo Subby covers: 4, 10, 14, 20 & 26, all of which are awesome, but none of which are drawn by Subby's creator, Bill Everett. I likewise see this as a terrible shame. Alex Schomburg is one of my all-time favorite cover artists, but I think there were enough cover assignments available that Everett could've drawn one or two for his own character! At least we have Sub-Mariner 32 & 33!!! Of course, they appear together on the covers of other Timely titles as well, but there's just something about those red and yellow Marvel Mystery issues ....
