Too Many Forum Scams for Me!

355 posts in this topic

As many of you know, I've been here through thick and thin, have had my fair share of trolls and have dished out and taken a lot of abuse, but lately I'm really starting to wonder about this place.

It seems to be forum scam after forum scam, with no end in sight. Maybe it's the economy, but I'm a tad hesitant to do business on here anymore, and it feels like the reprobates are running the Marketplace. Ripping off buyers doesn't sit well with me, and it doesn't exactly fill me with a sense of "forum camaraderie".

If this blatant scamming continues, I can't see a reason to be part of this community any longer.

Trolls will cheer, most will shrug, but the base problem should still be disconcerting to most.

I have to assume your buying is done covertly on the boards, since I personally have never seen you purchase anything. If that's the case I assume you already have trust in those you buy from.

A noob selling here is like a 0 feedback seller on ebay to me.

I think the problem is not so much with the "newbie sellers" but seeing long-time members start to defraud their fellow board members.

It's unfortunate.

Times are tough, but what happens on the Internet can literally hang around indefinitely.

Is there a huge wave of scamming or just a couple bad eggs?

It's likely just a percentage that has not changed. As board traffic increases so will the total amount of scams. It's still a minority and will never be perfect.

Oops. I'm talking JC into staying.

Common sense should prevail- don't buy from children or huge lots sight unseen.

Let's not forget that the original lot was also purchased from another board member. That isn't the problem.

The problem is in the rewording of the original description, the claim that they were untouched/unsearched, and the increased price vs the original price (which was blatantly a lie.)

He hasn't been scammed himself, he's just being the martyr for all of his affected comrades. Falling on your own sword is so.. .noble... and attention whoring.

Ah! Thanks for looking out for my interests J-C (thumbs u

Exactly, and it's this recent "good sellers gone bad" phenomenon that's really disheartening, and remember folks, not every single scam is highlighted in the forum.

There is a LOT of bad stuff going on behind closed PM doors, and due to most people's unwillingness to air dirty laundry/admit they got scammed, is never reported to the entire forum.

Some of it would literally turn your hair grey, if you have any or it's not already. :insane:

JC, out of the 4 people in the past few weeks that have been discussed in the probation thread, all 4 are repeat offenders. It's not like pillars of the sales community are taking people's money.

So now, what do you have?

(Just for the record for those wondering, JC does buy on the boards. I've sold to him before.)

A few other private sales, but I'm not going to post them. It's up to the buyer.

You sold something? :o

The apocalypse is near!
