At the end of VCC I sold a copy of Daredevil #1 for $85 to BCC. I sent it off on 12/10/07 Priority Mail. He claims he never received it. I did not put delivery confirmation, nor insurance on the package, nor did he ask for it (I only charged $5 for shipping).

Anyway, it's been around 2 weeks and he says he's still not received it.

I have no history with BCC, but I know people on this board will vouch for my transaction rate / satisfaction (which is 100%).

He's demanding a refund, saying I should bear the loss since I did not insure or track it. I proposed that both of us to bear the loss as he did not ask for tracking / insurance either. I do have the receipt for the shipped item and intend to file a missing package report to the Post Office.

Suggestions?

I don't know from BCC, but if he's trustworthy (and not some flake) than you as seller are responsible for the safe delivery of the book, tracked or otherwise. The tracking is for your benefit, not his. :sorry:

On the other hand, I can vouch for deamentia :sumo: Who the freak is BCC? hm

Hate to say it but it's your word against his, and generally the responsibility should fall on you (the seller). I usually at least try to put tracking on a book. It's only about 60 cents more and can save this type of headache :sorry:

Hindsight is always 20/20

Yeah, I mean if it comes down to it, I will reluctantly refund him the full amount, but it just bothers me that he's asking for a refund so quickly. BCC (black cat comics) says he's reputable on the boards and is a part-time Heritage grader. But yeah, it's my word against his. I do have the receipt, like I said, but that's the only proof I have.

I thought Priority automatically came with tracking.

Anyways, unless there's good reason to believe that BCC is lying, I agree with what the others here have said, that it's basically the seller's responsibility to ensure safe delivery unless there is tracking and/or insurance. Given that the mailing took place during December, when the postal system goes crazy, I would say that both of you should give it at least 2 more weeks before reaching a settlement.

Since it's only been 2 weeks, this transaction is not even eligible for probation yet and probably should have been brought up in the Discussion thread instead.

Tracking only comes automatically with Priority if you purchase it online. Otherwise I agree with Tim wholeheartedly :hi:

Can't you file a claim even without insurance? I have a pending claim for another board member who didn't get his book. Luckily it wasn't much but even if you can claim some of the value back it's better than nothing? Hope it turns up :wishluck:

Alright. I will ask him to give it another two weeks. Thanks guys :)

It may show up, but I hope you packed it well...I had a Priority Box arrive after 60 days...yes, 60 days...and it looked like it had been run over by a forklift and then dragged behind the mail truck for a few thousand miles. Also, tracking doesn't help if the item is lost...in the case of my 60-day Priority Box, the tracking info just said that it had been sent from such and such Post Office on such and such date. (shrug)

Then on the day it arrived, it changed to: Delivered in Orlando, FL

I agree with the others in that you will have to bite the bullet and refund if it doesn't show. Good luck! :wishluck:

I had a similar experience with a media mail package. I shipped it and a month later it still hadn't arrived. I gave a refund to the buyer and three months later it arrived back at my mail box. The package was in fine shape, but I have no idea where it was for four months.

I agree with everyone else, a refund is in order here, and I also don't think it's out of line to wait a total of four weeks to see if the package shows up.

From your end, yes. But the PO has internal tracking that is much more detailed and can see any of the numerous times that the piece was scanned. (You probably need either delivery confirmation or to have electronically paid for shipping for this though.) Again, a call to the customer service dept. often leads to answers.

I call when media shipments take more than two weeks and they are often sitting at my local bulk mail center and then promptly arrive the next day.

Always get delivery comformation unless it's ultra cheap reader modens that you don't care about under $20.
