I’m not sure if it was the same one. There wasn’t any pictures at the time I went, but why didn’t you tell me? :foryou:

There wasn’t really an opportunity to cherry pick. He had a golden age Batman book for a couple hundred, Spectacular Spider-Man 1 - 10, and stuff like this as well as some more expensive variants so it was too out of my range. I was going to get the 880 but there was a big crease on the back cover. I just stuck with stuff I like to collect.

Yeah this is the one with the one GA Batman promoted on CL earlier this week. Saw it Wednesday at noon time.

Taking them all would depend on your age, willingness to deal with a lot of lower priced books, how much room you want to devote to storage…

Personally, I would quickly cherry pick out anything of any decent value and let the next guy have the rest.

If he had a GA Batman for several hundred, he probably, at least, has an idea of what he had. Hey, you never know, that Batman even for a couple hundred could net you a decent profit, quickly.

How much was the #880?

Last night I saw an intriguing ad for a yard sale advertising “1,000s of rare comics” as its lead. Naturally I was dismissive and scoffed it off as a euphemism thinking it’d be a swap meet dealer unloading undesirable overstock. It was far, no pics and no prices so I didn’t bother. Boy, I wish I had. Here’s what my friend got for $1 each. He filled about three longboxes

I find it impossible to believe in this day and age that someone who can advertise stuff for sale on the internet, doesn't use said internet to find out their current value.

Great score… drop $100 and potentially make a few grand. Well done!

I think about that all the time. I still find great deals even on eBay (gotta hunt and be patient, but still). In that case, it's like - you're right there! You're selling it right on eBay, even if you know zero about comics, how long can it take to plug some titles and numbers into the search bar to see what you have? Thank God for the apathy of others, I hope it never changes.

It's crazy.

I don't see it as much as you - but if I get a deal with an obvious key in it - I think 'how did you NOT know that was a $300 book??'

You and your buddies seem to find them on a regular basis - is this still the norm in USA?

It's dead here (and from speaking to other boardies) and in UK as well regarding boot sales.

I just don't get how you can put up a country wide ad, but not look and see (for example) that the Supes annual shown is a $40 book.....

Their loss, your gain.

I'm actually in the process of that right now with a potential big high grade OO collection. The onus is on them to price their stuff but the buyer in most cases should know what they're inheriting more since the first party is essentially ridding their junk

The ad is locally in a specific area or region but yard sales are held regularly. Scoring big is not a regular occasion. There's risk involved and having to go and being okay with striking out is involved. It's a numbers game. I'd probably say 20% of the time it's a big score. Where I live is ideal for yard sales based on the ideal weather, endless moving out sales (because it's too expensive), and the accessibility to collectibles is easy so everyone has them. It's also in the culture

I just had a conversation with my wife the other day (who tolerates my collecting but has zero interest in any of it) - we got on the subject of what we'd do if the other died, in that kind of morbid way that couples who've been together for a couple of decades talk about stuff. She said, "I'll finally be able to clean out the basement, it'll take a UHaul to get it to Goodwill." And I had to get serious and tell her to absolutely not do that - I said I understand that she doesn't care about the books and toys, but that there's way too much value there to dump it at Goodwill. So I had to give her explicit instructions on what to do and who to call about my collection on the unfortunate occasion of my passing... :facepalm:xD

Oh, me too!

I actual have my (good) books written into my will for the kids with specific 'who to contact' for each book if they want to sell them!

The thought of Tec #38 going to the Salvation Army, well...........
