I’m vastly aware of FOMO. I missed the window on TOS 39 but followed it as a “case study” and finally a few years ago I was in a financial position to really put some money into SA. It was obvious to me that waiting would cost me dearly, so in the past few years I’ve been lucky enough to snag a few off my key list: Avengers 4 6.5, FF1 4.0 , DD1 5.0, X-Men 1 7.0, GS X-Men 1 9.6, and FF48-50 8.5- all prior to their popping. At this point my list of books left for my bucket list isn’t that long but is going to cost me dearly - AF15, TOS39, Avengers 1, JIM 83, and Hulk 1. I have a feeling that I’m going to die completing this gauntlet and I’m only 50 LOL. I'm glad you were able to get many of the big guys. My philosophy over the last decade has been to "get in the door" as early as I can. Buy lower grade copies of the big keys, then slowly upgrade. That way instead of biting off huge chunks, you can sell and only pay the "price per point" to upgrade. It's a slow journey, but it keeps things interesting. Right now I have most of the major SA keys, in some way, shape or form. Some with resto, low grade, my new AF15 is missing a back cover. But I'll keep moving up the ladder. I think barring being independently wealthy or having some kind of huge unexpected financial windfall that’s what I’ll have to do moving forward and with what’s going on now it’s probably the prudent thing. Slacker!! In all seriousness though, it's possible to find great copies you can be happy with at any grade. If your dream is to own a particular book in a certain grade, but your budget can only afford a lower grade, the "get in the door" strategy is a great way to go. Focus on eye appeal and you'll be surprised just how much satisfaction you get despite the fact that you're "settling" on grade. Drummy
I agree totally -- if you can get past a 'number' you can find a beautiful comic in almost any grade. Right now my collection has a least one 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, 5.5, 6.0, 6.5, 7.0, 7.5, 8.0, 8.5, 9.2, and 9.4 in it...and they all look good (to me, anyway)! I guess what I'm saying is that I need to find a 9.0. Dan

PKJ
No trimming on either. That 6.0 looked like an easy reversal, both could be living in new slabs before too long and seem like bargains in today's market. I am amazed how aggressive pricing has been, and if CL had extended bidding I bet we would see much higher bids. HA has a 4.0 that I think will set the gpa high this weekend, already at $8700. It is curious that the restored 6.0 and 4.0 each closed that high before the end of the blue 3.5 auction. I wonder whether the blue 3.5 would have ended higher had it instead closed before the two restored books in the auction, due to having two aditional deep pockets going after the same issue. As it stands, while the blue 3.5 looks like a steal, the two restored books could represent bargains too. kimik
According to the Illuminerdi today, and posted in the Movie/TV section, Marvel is starting the development of a movie currently titled "The Mutants". I wonder how much more that will run prices up?

Darthbryan
The thing that people need to be prepared for, in terms of hard core X-Men SA fans, is that we aren’t likely to see the X-Men that we want. I sincerely doubt that K Feige is going to reboot Jean Gray, Beast, Cyclops etc. out of the gate. My gut tells me they’ll take a fresh take and it could likely be a mix of later X-Men characters and some from the New Mutants (properly canonized, not like that terrible horror movie). I’ll be shocked if we ever see Magneto in the MCU. He’s had too much non-MCU exposure. And I’ll probably be shot for saying this but I don’t thing Marvel will tap Wolverine for a long, long time. dikran

Agree on the x-men team will likely be a mixed bag, some old some new. Gotta spice things up with the reboot. Highly Disagree that wolverine be kept away. Wolverine is one the fan favorite and most popular superheroes of everyone alive. That’s like DC saying, eh we hate money so we gonna shelf Batman for 20 years and concentrate instead on Robin movies for the time being. I agree that they can't wait too long to get Wolverine in the mix. The problem with the original X-Men is that they're all such bland, boring characters. (The Beast and Marvel Girl / Phoenix were given upgrades in the Bronze Age, but I'm talking about the early days.) Cyclops in particular is a character that filmmakers haven't seemed to know what to do with. In the Fox X-Men movies, he was practically a cardboard cutout, serving mostly as a foil for Wolverine and never really getting "POV" treatment by the scripts. There must be a way to preserve his central "wound too tight" persona but put some real pathos into that, making the audience understand why he's so hell-bent on keeping himself under control -- it obviously ties to his power set, and if done right they can borrow some of what made Mark Ruffalo's Bruce Banner work so well. PKJ
Heritage 4.0 did set the recorded high on GPA last night at $14,609 although the CL 4.0 was $15250 a couple weeks ago. I thought the added supply would level off this book some, but obviously I was wrong. A few more already in preview for March CL auction so we will see how those do. If GSX1 is growing despite its supply, X1 certainly has more than enough demand as books come to market. Edited March 9, 2021 by Northwest
