And no, I'm not kidding

And you sold it to Metro instead of offering it to the bat lovers of the boards?????? :pullhair:

Um... ??? It's upstairs in my GA box (minus the slab--I cracked it as soon as it arrived). This one isn't getting sold.

ok, the metro scan puzzled me. They typically are not in the habit of selling books like this for under $100

Typically not, but I guess in this instance I got lucky. Here goes:

I was sick with a heckuva stomach bug leaving me laid up on the coach all day and night. I woke up late one evening, and being unable to fall back asleep, I decided to float around online. I sometimes will toy around to see what certain books will go for price-wise and having just started into collecting GA, I thought I'd go digging to learn about the market on Detective Comics and Batman--particularly the early ones.

Anyhow, as I was perusing through Metro's inventory, I noticed a VERY presentable copy of Batman 2 slabbed in 1.5 Universal...and it was priced at $100. This didn't seem right so I looked around to see if there were some sort of Canadian variant or some other editions floating out there that this could be confused with--nope, this was legit.

Needless to say, I promptly BIN'd that puppy. The next day, I received an email confirmation of my order and then shortly after, another email stating the book shipped. After a week from the time I BIN'd it, the book arrived--

We're convinced that the list price was a mistake.

Wow that is really cool! I bet they meant to list it for $1,000 and left off a 0. Bet the guy got fired who did. lol

But wow Mac-Man nice pick up! Nicest deal I think I have ever seen (even if it was an error)

Anyone else have a metro story like this? Doubt it :baiting:

I would think it was too, Rick, so I actually emailed Metro and was the person who Frank responded that the order was processed. But yeah, I was really pleased that it went through and I've always given them plenty of good word of mouth for following through on this.

Thought it would be fun to see the books others manage to find for under $100.

I bought this recently for $40...

...Well, it wasn't slabbed when I bought it in 1976, which in the grand scheme of things is relatively recent.

Actually, you've owned the book more than half its life. In 1976 it was closer to being new than it was to 2010.

Great colors and a great book you have.

Isn't getting older weird? When I bought my first comic (1972) Action 1 was only 34 years old. Now Conan #1 is 40 years old :o

Like some of the others, many of my GA funny animal books were under $100. But this one was probably the best deal and certainly the only WDC&S this early I got at that sort of price. This one was $60 on ebay.

Hmm!?! But couldn't you buy cars in 1976 for about 40 bucks! hm

Have we really been in the hobby that long? That is scary.

I hope you'll forgive me for blithely ignoring the limit you've set, but I felt compelled to list this, just recently won on ebay; total cost was $208 and change. Except for those wistfully added nipples, I think it looks pretty good! Almost 72 years old, and Bill Everett's first comic book work (cover only)! I never thought I'd own one.

You got a great book! Listed in "Bronze Age", no mention of "Bill Everett" or "Centaur" in the listing. Who says there are no deals on eBay?

Picked this FC 16 up off of comiclink for $111 which is close enough to $100

And this MOC off ebay for $30 plus grading of ~$30 which graded out as a 9.0. That fit nicely into my high grade Bugs collection.
