Mast head is from Strange Tales 101 and the golden age torch from Marvel Mystery 13 via Alex Schomburg. The artist this was commissioned to is Bruce McCorkindale. He has done several for me including this one.

Bruce did a cover recreation of X-Men #4 for me. It turned out great.

With Silver Age DC it's best not to think too much to avoid exactly what you're experiencing...

Great looking book the red looks very deep/rich!

Newly slabbed self-submission.  Not pressed - pressing won't help the minor issues that prevent it from grading higher.

As a teen, not sure why, but in terms of Superman/Action comic books I very much wanted a high grade Silver Age Superman with both Braniac and Luthor on cover. Later the same decade in 1998 I accomplished that goal, well sort of given they are only "wooden dummies".  BTW I do consider mid 1960's DC in 9.4 to be high grade, but not so with Marvel. 1960's DC collectors have to be less picky given scant supply compared to Marvel in 9.2 and higher.

Love the blurb Luthor Calling Superman! Are You Chicken?

Issue #33, no graded copies on the Census?

Self-submitted, NOT pressed,  RAW purchase made in 1999, arrived back home yesterday.

I measured the pages with my OWL they were White, in fact perhaps the most White SA pages I've ever seen - looked like a mid 80's DC (mando). Yet was given OW/W, seriously CGC WTF. At least they got the grade correct, one of the sharpest  Mid 60's DC's I've ever held in my hands.

Please note the vertical line on the S in Superman is the slab itself and looks worse in the scan than in hand.

Thanks Bret. Probably right in that Fine 6.0 area, with some very pressable flaws, if I were to go that route.

The minor bottom crease that held the book back from being a 9.8 I know will press out. However using 4x magnification color breaking can be seen. Will probably reach out to Joey for guidance via a new thread in Comic Book Grading Sub-Forum

80 page Giant with Neal Adams/Plastino cover back this week from CGC.  A 1999 $50 purchase which at time was high for the book.
