Finally back to semi-normal.

Had a ball at both shows. Lined up great signings for my shop in 2011.

Back to back major cons kicked my . Out there in the trenches I have seen a couple of trends developing.

 

#1 back issues from the last 6 months were damn tough to find at both shows. Shops are ordering very conservatively. It is a great time to buy new comics for speculation, in my opinion. Most requested book that I did NOT have was Batman Beyond #1-3!? It was requested almost hourly.

 

#2 This was the first time that TPB & Hardcover sales seemed to be higher than actual comic sales across both floors. They are ultimately back issues with thicker spines.

 

#3 EVERY publisher is trying to cash in on the upcoming Zombie mania that will be created by the Walking Dead show. Look out for a flood of mediocre Zombie books. That said, I’m going with a cult favorite of mine.

 

Yep, Morning Glories #3 is allready out of print. Easy pickings.

Skullkickers is dropping like a rock. Beware.

When to Sell: This book probably has unlimited potential. Show / Shop[/ Online dealers will sell it forever.

hmmm whos putting out the "Logan's Run" and "Night of the Living Dead"?... and any idea how they are?

Good question. I cannot figure it out myself...

 

Logan's Run is from Blue Water, Living Dead is Avatar.

 

Blue Water tends to start books well but has trouble finishing them.

 

Blue Water is a very frustrating company. They usually have great covers, but the interior art on many of their books is very amateurish. You definitely want to see the interior of the comics before deciding to purchase one of their comics.

 

Logan's Run has pretty decent interior art.

In regards to #7, does this count: For every 3 books purchased, retailers may purchase one copy of Night of the Living Dead #1 Classic B&W cover.

 

And it's the usual avatar cover craziness, i think i counted 8 #1's on avatars site.

 

Don't miss all the terrifying covers, Paul (Freakangels) Duffield provides the Regular edition, Raulo (Cpt Swing) Caceres melts eyeballs with the Wraparound cover, and twisted Matt Martin splatters the Gore covers all over the page.

Anyone pick up/find Night of the Living Dead? My LCS had one copy which he had not put out, but it was the wrap around cover, so I went to another LCS (the biggest in my city) and got a copy of the original cover and another wrap cover, and that's all they had out, one copy of each. I'm actually excited to read it tonight, but man this thing seems hard to find.

Carnage #1 got sold out in my LCS, as well as Soldier zero, MG#1 4th print, skull kicker #2 and living dead

There's a ton of Carnage 1 at my LCS. A bunch of Skull Kickers #2 (and second print of #1) as well as some MG 3s left (and some 4th prints of 1). Kick 2 had some leftovers as well. It looks like they generally overordered this week or lost a bunch of off the rack business all at once.

 

Night of the Living Dead sold out.

 

Leftovers of Ratchet & Clank, Tron, Logan's Run...Walking Dead didn't sell out either.

 

Lots of leftoevers of True Blood 4 too.

Kickass2 sold well few copies left.

 

MG 1 4th print and issue 3 have sold well about 9 copies of issue 3 left out of 30.

is a Batman Odyssey, any one of the recent WOlverine $3.99 one shots, DD 500, Hulk 700, ASM 600 or any other book that maybe got overordered a little but is something people might be interested in at some point for 50 cents each sensible. Sure, that's sensible for reading, but I'm talking multiples. Any basis to think these might be good $2 sellers (half or less of cover)?

hmmm whos putting out the "Logan's Run" and "Night of the Living Dead"?... and any idea how they are?

Good question. I cannot figure it out myself...

 

Logan's Run is from Blue Water, Living Dead is Avatar.

 

Blue Water tends to start books well but has trouble finishing them.

Living Dead was my second pick, I debated between that and Carnage.If you look at what the back issue prices of what Jason and Halloween comics go for, Living Dead would be a good long termer.

 

I'm not really a "horror" fan, so I don't keep up with those books. If they have a track record, why not?

 

I must confess, I'm not a true speculator. I will certainly give hot books a try if they sound appealing (i.e. Morning Glories) but otherwise I buy what I intend to read. As I've said before, I'm not a zombie fan, so I missed out on Walking Dead. Now that I've read the first trade, I'm bummed that I let it slide by.

I would say after superheroes, horror comics would be number two in popularity if we take EC comics,Vertigo and Walking Dead into consideration as the barometer. good pick there MedicAR.

Really? The AVATAR NotLD books actually have a track record of fetching more than cover? I'm a huge fan of zombies, but the AVATAR line of NofLD was kind of lame in my opinion, so I'm surprised to hear this. Pricey books to begin with for what seemed like little content. I rid myself of them all a couple of years ago, with the exception of that photo cover of the girl from the b&w version of the movie.

For fans of NotLD, you should seek out the 1990s issues written by STEVEN NILES/CLIVER BARKER and with TEMPLESMITH art I believe by FANTACO. Bloody tough to find books. I had them once, and sold them, but now I cannot find them again, without having to pay $20.00 or so for each issue....

I've only sought out one Night of the Living Dead book. It was the first one with a cover that looked like a movie poster. It was screaming for a George Romero signature. It took sone time to find a nice copy.
