Beyond CL missing the CF (very odd, they tend to be decent at grading and resto check), what I don't understand is why they did not have the raw book in hand in the first place. As I understand it, in order to post a raw book on CL you need to go through a process in which you first send them your raw books for sale and after a while if your grading passes the test, only then can you list raw books without sending them to them first. Is this no longer the case? If it is, then it means they have some trust in Wong, which they established.

I do believe that CL should have caught it. The pages are numbered, thought not on the ad pages which was near the centerfold. But still, it wouldn't take much to figure it out. CL basically relied on comics.org which lists the book at 64 pages. I believe comics.org includes covers when counting, so 64 is wrong; it has 64 interior pages and the 4 cover folios for a 68 count.

 

Comiclink has had the book the whole time and still has it, so they followed their own procedures. The different part was that I paid Holden outside of comiclink, and thus the rub when it came to a refund.

Hey guys,

 

In the interest of fairness, I just wanted to bump this thread to share some good experiences I've had with Holden Wong.

 

I purchased one non-Superman Action Comics #1 page from him a few months back; and then ended up reading this thread after I had already sent my payment. I was a bit nervous naturally, but there was an email waiting in my inbox with the tracking information the moment I woke up to check my email.

 

The package arrived safe and sound; and I felt comfortable enough to do another deal with him shortly thereafter. I then worked out a trade-transaction to acquire two additional non-Superman Action #1 pages, and they too arrived safe and sound (though I have since sold one of them).

 

The reason I'm bumping this thread is because Holden did (as some others have already speculated in another thread) sign up for the boards, and he PM'd me earlier today. Because my last two experiences with him were positive ones, I decided to purchase another Action #1 page from him that will be mailed out to me tomorrow.

 

I'll be happy to share my acquisition with everyone after it arrives...and I have the opportunity to take some pics.

 

I cannot speak to anyone elses past experiences, but I did tell him that I'd share my positive ones in the interest of fairness because my past two transactions with him went well, and I'm hopeful that this third transaction will be another positive one.

I ended up chatting with an eBayer named Holden about a few of his slabs about a week or so ago (sometime before this thread resurfaced anyway). He provided a few respected references that I was familiar with and we struck a deal over the phone (with a follow up call to occur the next day to sort out payment details after I had a chance to touch base with his references). Towards the end of the call, he provided his last name, and I noted it but didn't really think much about it at the time. However, pretty much right after our call ended, I started to ask myself where I had heard his name before, so I thought it must have been on these boards. Later that night I did a couple of searches and managed to come across this thread. By that time it was late, so I sent an email to Holden, expressing my concern, and I provided a link to this thread. Holden understood my concern given all of the negative things that had been shared about him in this thread to date, and agreed to ship the slabs before receiving payment (in the '000's of $s). He packaged them up securely and shipped them out promptly, and I returned the favor by sending payment as soon as I received his package (no pun intended ).

 

Holden seemed like a genuinely nice guy based on our email and phone exchanges, and I really enjoyed conversing with, so I encouraged Holden to join the boards (although he had already done so), and to contribute to various threads of interest, and to do what he could to clear his name in this thread since it doesn't exactly paint him in the best light. To that end, as a start, he asked if I would be okay with sharing my positive experience in this thread, and I decided to oblige. I believe he plans to chime in here himself eventually.
