What did you think about his grading? He's got some books I'm interested in on his site in the VF/NM to NM range, but no pics. What has your experience been with his grading?

Send him an email requesting scans. He's quick to respond (usually will get them to you same evening). I've found Bob to be consistently the tightest and best grader out there.

He is one of the better dealers in the country. Not only a tough grader he see's things from a collectors point of view AND is fair with his prices.

I don't want to bother him for scans. I'm not looking at any high dollar books, but rather a bunch of $20-40 books. He also offers a money back guarantee, so the worst that could happen is I pay shipping both ways.

 

If the consensus is that he's a tight grader then I'll just place my order. I've heard people say good things about him on these boards, but just didn't recall anyone talking specifically about his grading.

 

The other reason I ask is because his prices seem low (I'm not complaining!) compared to other dealers books in the same grade. It just made me wonder "why?".

i just got atought to find NM- book that truly was NM- with a shot at NM, and a vf book, that was prob a little less so because of the back cover, but it was priced as a fine, so i was happy with that as well. I would order again without fear!

My experiance is that his grading is right on, would not hesitate to order raw comics from him. Excellent communication, great packing, quick shipping.

I've made mention of it before and I'll say it again, of all the major high grade dealers out there, Bob is one of the few who actually knows how to grade and prices appropriately. I've bought everything from VF- to NM+ from Bob raw and I've never been disappointed. There's no, hey, here's a book I bought NM- that turned out to be VF+. The guy is accurate and consistent. His website and mail ordering service are spectacular. If you see him at a show, don't expect the friendliest dealer in America, but you will find one of the best graders. Guy's honest and doesn't f--k around. If you're looking for a rock bottom price, don't expect it. They're usually priced around or at the top of going market rate. If you want quality, like everything else in life, expect to pay for it. I'd certainly order with confidence on raw books sight unseen.

His grading is solid! It is surprising since he is such a big dealer. Most of the books I have purchased from him have been dead on or +/- .2 of a grade, which is spectacular. I would not hesitate to deal with Bob.

I'm confused... Are you telling me that it's possible to receive a box of comics and not open it as soon as you walk through the doorway?

I have nothing but praise for Bob, as he took a monster Bronze list of mine, found me some books, and even though they were not high-value, proceeded to email me full scans.

 

Naturally I bought the books, which all came in Mylar, safely boxed for the trip, and accurately graded.

 

My only complaint is that he doesn't seem to have anymore books from my wantlist.

I agree with the rest of you, Bob's grading is spot on, and his shipping rates to the U.K. are not bad either.

Only criticism is his lack of Golden Age goodies! He's missing out on a lot of potential customers and $$$ by seemingly limiting himself to being the Silver Age specialist. No complaints in that department though!

I have put together a big Fantastic Four run, and lots of it has been from Bob. Raw or graded, his prices are decent and his service is excellent. One of the few major dealers that I deal with regularly.
