...the whole mythos of Superman was "borrowed" from the 1917 sci-fi novel from Edgar Rice Borroughs; "A Princess of Mars", in which an earthman (John Carter) travels to Mars where he aquires super human abilities due to the difference in gravity and atmosphere of the planet....So technically Superman and Tarzan are first cousins,... hm

Legendary artist John Byrne who rebooted Superman in the 1980s, never saw his chest emblem as a red S on a yellow background. He has always pictured it as two yellow fish on a red background because that is what he thought it was when he first saw it as a child.

Superman had a love affair with someone called Sally Selwyn and was actually engaged to be married to her. It all started while he was *under the inflluence of red kryponite and didn't know he was actually Superman. In a later issue, he ran into her again and remembered he was in love with her. He broke it off because he was worried she would be killed by mobsters who would want revenge on Superman.

Issue 169 suggests there may be further developments to this story, but I'm still reading my Silver Age run.

Superman's glasses.

How is it that people don't recognize that Clark Kent and Superman are the same person when he either puts on or takes off his glasses?

In the golden age, it was explained that Superman could actually change the shape of his face (like putty). The glasses were only a prop to make Clark look more timid. In the early days of the strip, Clark and Superman's face were drawn a bit differently.

Over time, this was forgotten and Superman & Clark always had the same face (except for the glasses).

It was finally explained in the late 70s that Clark's glasses (made from the Kryptonian window of the rocket that brought him to earth) in conjunction with Superman's ability to hypnotize, project an illusion in people's mind that somehow make Clark look different & more timid than Superman. This was proven when Clark asks a sketch artist to draw a picture of himself and he looks a lot different than Superman wearing a pair of glasses.

Apparently, this hypnotic effect still persists for an unspecified period of time when Superman temporarily looses his powers.

Did he avoid being photographed?
