Didn't have that many moderns to read this week, so I managed to delve into the pile of stuff I have been neglecting. Very varied this week, I was really disappointed by the Cthulu Tales omnibus, I'm a big Lovecraft fan and thought this would be perfect for me. Alas most of the stories were in the ironic vein or downright silly..and not the all out terror I was expecting

Also finally started on my Heavy Metal Magazine set...had these for years without even opening them up.

After suffering through the major disappointment that was BTVS Season 8 it was good to see that the majority of these titles, especially the main one, not only stuck to the spirit of the original TV series but continued on with the characters in a sensible and innovative way. Apart from the John Byrne issues - his art just isn't right for the character.

Buffy the Vampire Slayer Season 9: #1-#15

 

A massive improvement on Season 8 - but that wouldn't have been difficult and that season only really went downhill after about 15 issues so I'm keeping my fingers crossed for this. Good writing, great covers and controversial stories that have had the 'loyal' fans (obsessives) complaining in their droves.

 

Angel and Faith: #1-#14.

 

Incorporated as part of BTVS Season 9 once the Angel character went back to Dark Horse from IDW. An excellent read, set mainly in London which has helped with quirky story-lines and even an appearance from Dr Who.

All the talk about Alan Moore in CG got me nostalgic about some of his ABC work so I thought I would read these again.

 

The whole run has something for any age and can be read at different levels - inspired by Tarzan's origin and with a talking ape as a companion and a robotic butler Moore's writing in the earlier issues plays as homage to the great GA and SA stories that AM must have grew up with. Ed Brubaker and Brian K Vaughn are just two of the other big name writers that contribute - as well as Michael Moorcock!

 

Different time-lines, different universes and even a talking Bunny version of Tom! Recommended reading.

I do most of my reading late at night, I try to read comics every day from midnight to around 1AM, sometimes 2 AM. Never been much of a sleeper.
