Last night was the first time I have ever heard of Supernatural and I didn't watch it.

Where have you been the last 7 years? You should start from season one. Great stuff.

I first saw part of an episode about 5 years ago. Thought it was interesting but never watched. Then a year or so ago I watched a rerun of the season premiere of season 4. I thought it was good but didn't follow up. I then saw it appear in Netflix instant and dragged my actually starting it but once I did I blew through it in 2 or 3 months.

If you like the X-Files you will probably like this. It has monster of the week episodes and instead of a running alien mythos storyline there is running demon storyline that pretty much evolves into a season or two storyline.

The show is pretty funny a lot of the time. There is awesome pop culture references to movies and music and if a storyline is "ripping off" a previous notable work they often joke about the source material. I thought seasons 1-6 were the best. I found season 7 to be a let down. The Leviathans were kind of lame and so were their plans. Plus they hardly used Castiel who had become a break out character...what the hell are they thinking. Plus i felt thy offed one too many support characters which could have made season 7 a bit stronger.

They also sink up some good classic rock songs to scenes in the show pretty well most of the time. Styx Renegade, Dylan's Knockin on Heavens Door, and Jefferson Starships Miracles were some of the best. The last had an in episode joke for even using Jefferson Starship and the song fit well with the big reveal at the end of the episode.

Definitely some funny stuff like the Deliverance references in The Benders episode. Castiel's dead pan cell phone problems, to Deans comment about cherubs, and the episode where he watches porn were great.

Oh yeah and the last episode had Thor's Hammer. I kind of wonder if Sam kept it or it will simply disappear and be forgotten. It would be a good time for Thor to finally make an appearance on the show since Odin and "Loki" already appeared.

I pretty much agree with everything you wrote.

The show started out with them killing off the monster of the week, but has gotten much better with the larger story lines surrounding angel politics, the absence of God, the rise of demonic forces, the control of earth, the needs of the many outweighing the few, etc.

The show has a high testosterone count. It's definitely a "guy show," as compared to Vampire Diaries which is clearly written more for a female audience.

It is also very clearly using the Batman mythos, re-imagined with strong biblical and pagan underpinnings though a Gaiman-esque lens.

Dean: Batman

Sam: Robin

Sam on his own: Nightwing

Impala: Batmobile

Bobby: Alfred

Bobby's House: Batcave

Castiel and the angels: Gordon and the police

Crowley: Joker?

Parents killed by forces of evil

etc., etc.

Add rock soundtracks, cheeseburgers and pie...what's not to love? It's easily one of my favorite shows on TV.

I meant to comment after the first episode. As a filmmaker the constant "sharping" of arrows soundtrack really bothers the hell out me.

Other than that, I really like the production values. Good cinematography, editing and pacing.

Hopefully the public likes the violence factor and the series is given a chance. My favorite GA will always be Brave & Bold #85. Great art, story and I imagine the writers read the book.

Sounds like I need to give Arrow a try. Think they'll tie in other elements of the DC universe?

By the way, CW offices are on the floor below mine. I often use their bathroom...much cleaner than ours which I believe has to do with the fact that the female:male ratio is higher on that floor. But that's just my theory. Though one gripe I have is that there's WB-produced corporate pop rock playing around the clock in the bathroom. Oh the irony.

Yes, TMI. It's 12:36AM PST. What do you expect?

I watched the second episode last night.

So far, I'm lukewarm about the show. I'm hoping that maybe it just hasn't hit its stride yet.

Some of the acting is not stellar. Some of the writing falls into the unlikely, unbelievable or stereotypical categories. Some of the characters have no depth and are two dimensional, especially the villains.

I thought the second fight scene with China White was really cheesy and poorly executed. As a character, she looks like an Asian Catwoman with a really bad blonde wig.

Amell looks great as Queen, but his voice is way too high, especially when he's shouting.

On the plus side, the cinematography, editing and pacing are excellent.

This show is attracting a strong audience. The pilot was CW's highest rated show in 3 years. The user ratings have dropped a bit from the pilot, but are still high.

I'm hoping it gets better soon, I was really looking forward to it.

I have not seen the second episode yet so I will withhold judgement. I think everything will take off once we see the original Ruby in the Black Canary outfit. :cloud9:

BTW: Just started Supernatural this month. I am already to season 5 and I love it. To be fair though, that show did not take off until the second season either.

I haven't seen last night's episode yet, but I did stream the first episode the other day and was pleasantly surprised at how good it was. I'm going to try it out for at least a few episodes as I think it shows promise. Having Katie Cassidy in the cast certainly does not hurt either. :insane:

Can we get past how much his sister missed him and the bodyguard's tours in Afghanistan? We get it. I think a Bruce Wayne cameo would be cool. Also, if Tom Welling can take a break from all of his projects, he could don the suit for a flyby.

As much as I'm not into DC - I've caught bits and pieces of this show, and I think it's kinda cool. I really hope it achieves the same success as Smallville.

Caught episode #2 last night. I've really enjoyed the pilot and #2 so far. I'll keep watching for now...

Saw the 2nd ep last night. I'm enjoying series so far, though I do have a gripe about the show's overtly anti-wealth, anti-business theme. Every single business leader in Crescent City seems to be a criminal, Oliver's rich kid sister is a vapid party girl and even his rich mom is evil (I think it's pretty obvious that her new husband will be revealed as a baddie at some point too). Heck, even Ollie himself before he found redemption on the island was a cheating, brawling, substance abusing playboy and his dad (who got into bed with all sorts of criminals to build his empire) had no qualms about killing an innocent man before turning the gun on himself. The only wholly sympathetic characters are Laurel, who takes on legal charity cases, and her blue collar cop father. hm

And at the end of THAT episode cue the current hot top 10 tune that you can buy on itunes.

Did we just watch 90210?

I hate the CW

Just finished watching the first 2, the monologue writing is pretty terrible, but the dialogue isn't - odd there is such a difference. I think I'll continue for another few episodes even though

the guys with guns are worse aims than storm troopers and apparently Green Arrow has no qualms about just killing a lot of people....

Harry Tasker: Yeah, but they were all bad. :)

Actually, I've got to give the producer kudos for that. I'd have a harder time getting engaged in a show where everyone GA shoots with an arrow doesn't get seriously injured...
