EC Fanatic Appreciation Weird Thread of Terror

346 posts in this topic

Any of you EC mavens have one of these Impact 1's:

From Overstreet: "Variant printed by Charlton. Title logo is white instead of yellow and print quality is inferior. Distributed to newsstands before being destroyed & reprinted (scarce)"

Destroyed & reprinted -- wonder what that means? hm

I was curious also - found this link w some info

Thanks for unearthing that thread. So, when Overstreet refers to the Charlton version as being "destroyed & reprinted" he apparently means that the Charlton version was destroyed and then Impact 1 was reprinted by EC's regular printer. So, apparently the Charlton version is actually the first printing, rather than being a variant as we usually use that term.

These books are fantastic and full of history. Prior to reading the orig thread, I had no idea of their existence. Interesting irony in how Canada had restrictions on what words could be used in comic titles, then only 5 years later, the SOTI would exacerbate the problem in the US, leading to the comic code and ultimate demise of the EC era and countless other publishers.

The cover of CS #1 captures the essence of film noir art that attracts me to the pre-robin tec and early Sandman stories.

This is a great thread with great books. Most of these have been posted before, but here are some of my EC's.

This one is lower grade and from Jerry Weist's collection. One of my favorite issues. I'll get a nicer copy eventually, but it's cool that it belonged to Jerry.

This one is a Gaines file copy. Near the end of the run for EC horror, and the cover story(lllustrated by George Evans) is pretty gruesome. And a great Ingels cover.

MrBedrock,

I am too ashamed to post my Weird Science #9 7.0 next to your highest CGC 9.8.

Here is my OA Weird Science #19 Precious Years P3.

This one of the many reasons why I love Wally Wood OA.

Much of the details of the OA are lost when put in print. EC actually did a pretty job of printing.

Wood's art is amazing. And his originals are unbelievable. I could stare at that page for days. Congrats on having it (thumbs u
