Paradise Comics Toronto Comicon 2005

If you are looking for multiple Signatures for the CGC Signature Series your best bet is to drop them off with us on the first day. We will have a Signature Series booth right beside CGC to make the process go as soon as possible.

Here is some information that you can do on your end to help things go smooth.

CGC SIGNATURE SERIES WITH

PARADISE COMICS

This adds a very exciting new dimension to the comics industry.

Getting comics signed at a convention has always been very popular. Now people can be assured of the authentication of an artist's or writer's signature on a comic book because the CGC tamper-evident holder and the CGC Signature Series label helps eliminate the threat of forgery.

Requirements:

• Comics must be in silver age bags with no tape.

Current/modern bags are too tight, must be in a bag that allows for easy removal for signing.

• Comics must have a clearly printed sticker on the comic bag with:

- your name,

- the comic name and issue number

- the name of the professional(s) you want to sign the comic

For multiple signatures, please rank the professionals in order of priority, with number 1 being the primary signature. If the primary signature cannot be obtained, you will need to identify whether you want the secondary one on its own or if you would prefer no signatures at all.

Note that the price for Signature Series is for one signature per comic submitted. For multiple signatures, please add $5 for each additional signature to cover additional time required to obtain additional signatures.

------------

For example:

Conan #1 by Kurt Busiek, Cary Nord and Dave Stewart might all be at the convention. You might rank them in order of priority as

1: Cary Nord

2: Kurt Busiek

3: Dave Stewart (n/r)

In this example, if Nord is available we will get him to sign first. However, if Busiek is not available then the book will be submitted with Nord's signature. Unless you tell us it is ok to do so, we will not obtain Busiek's signature without getting Cary Nord to sign it first.

--------------

Grading prices for each tier is as follows:

Modern - $27.00 US

Economy - $37.00 US

Standard - $57.00 US

Express - $87.00 US

Due to variations in convention signing schedules, Paradise Comics cannot guarantee that Signature Series books will be obtained in time to be submitted for same day On-Site grading by CGC (if offered at this convention). Therefore all books for the CGC Signature Series will be submitted to CGC for grading at their facilities in Sarasota, Florida.

Paradise Comics will be traveling to most major conventions this year. We will gladly accept comics for those shows. They can be submitted at an earlier show, couriered to our storefront or to the hotel we are staying. Please check our website calendar for future shows www.paradisecomics.com.

I can honestly say I do not know one dealer that has said they are going to attend. As you can imagine as a dealer I am talking with others quite often.

I know a couple who are, but who is or isn't there isn't really any of our concern.

If you guys want to ask questions about the Paradise Comics Toronto Comicon on April 29, 30, May 1 or about the Shuster Awards or Signature Series, then this is the thread to do it in.

The best place to look for information on the other company's events is their website and if it doesn't answer your questions I would suggest you make use of their contact information and ask them directly.

Kev,

I was talking to my friend in Kelowna last night, and he had visited the Emerald City Comicon, and spoke to Jimmy Cheung who said that he wont be attending the Paradise Comics Toronto Comicon in April. Does anyone know if this is true? I need to know if I should bring my New Avengers books to get signed and maybe graded.

Jim Cheung contacted me just last week to say he had concerns re: border crossings and some tight deadlines on upcoming issues of Young Avengers. We were looking into it to see if there was any way to ensure he would not run into border slowdowns but at this point it looks as if he is not going to be able to make it. This will be updated on the site this coming weekend.

Guest Additions:

Sal Abbinanti (artist/creator, Atomika)

Samm Barnes (writer, Doctor Spectrum, Strange, Spectacular Spider-Man)

Ian Boothby (writer, Simpsons Comics)

Alvin Lee (artist, Darkstalkers, Street Fighter, Age of Apocalypse)

David Mack (writer/artist, Kabuki) - said we could put him down on the list as tentative.

Plus:

Jason Carter (actor, Babylon 5)

Anita La Selva (actor, Gene Roddenberry's Earth: Final Conflict).

Corporate Additions:

UDON

Speakeasy Comics

Arcana Studio

I still have some more artists in the pipeline that I hope to be able to confirm by the end of the week so I can add them to our convention poster - which goes to the presses next week.

Oh ya, guys, Im polling for David Finch to win for Outstanding Canadian Comic Book Artist. Has he confirmed to be attending the Comicon?

Steve

No, David Finch has not confirmed yet.

Oh yeah...

If people like exclusive comics I can tell you there will be at least three PCTC exclusive comics.

I'll give you the details on the specific titles when I've got the full info from the publishers involved.

We'd actually heard from JMS since we last discussed this, so I know he won't be in TO at all in late April/early May. He mentioned that he had hoped to attend our con as a fan but he'll be back home at that time.

It was actually quite nice of him to write to us out of the blue like that.

Votes are pouring in - and some of the races are VERY CLOSE (especially in the Writer and Artist categories which are four person races)... so much so that the oddsmakers in Vegas are going nuts!

New Additions to the List:

Vatche Mavlian

Artist, Spider-Man & Wolverine mini (Marvel)

Peter Grau

Artist, Solar and other Valiant and DC Comics titles

Paul Rivoche

Artist, LOSH and Superman (DC Comics)

Paul will be at the show on Saturday and possibly Sunday.

Subtraction from the list:

Ty Templeton

Artist, Spider-Man/Human Torch mini (Marvel)

Ty had already committed a year ago to doing the International Comic Arts Festival in St. John's Newfoundland and the dates were finally determined late last week. Unfortunately it falls on the same weekend. We are working on a way to connect with Ty via an internet broadcast so he can take part in the Shusters ceremony.

There will be a specific Signature Series booth located beside the CGC booth (which is in the first block of dealer tables).

If you want to get them done at the show, talk to the rep who will be at that booth and they will explain to you what options you have available. Basically you can either (1) leave the book with the rep to have it done at the show and submitted directly to CGC, or (2) you can line up yourself and have one of the witnesses watch the signing and walk you back to the Signature Series booth for submission to CGC. In both cases you have to inform the Sig Series booth of your plans in advance.

Witnesses will be walking around. Person at the booth will tell you how to identify a Sig Series witness.

This morning we were on City TV's Breakfast Television promoting the Shusters!

Toronto Star reporter and Drive-In Classics host Rob Salem did a superb job discussing Joe Shuster and his ties to the Toronto Star (and to Canada). The BT crew were outstanding, especially producer Brad Matson and host Liza Fromer (who is absolutely stunning and very charming in person).

(Rob Salem is the co-host for the Shuster Awards ceremony on April 30th at the Paradise Comicon.)

They showed a CGC graded copy of Action Comics #21 (courtesy of Paradise), Dave Sim's original portrait of Joe Shuster (used for the poster art), a Shuster-inspired Superman statue and a whole stack of books by our various nominees that we assembled last night (featuring nominated works by Chester Brown, Dave Sim, Darwyn Cooke, J. Torres, Ian Boothby, Ty Templeton, Cary Nord, David Finch, Suley Fattah, Pia Guerra and Stuart Immonen)

Tyrone Biljan, James Waley and I were off to the side providing moral support and drinking lots of coffee!

Thanks BT!

Hey Kev, i just recieved a free admission to your "competitors" con in the mail. How desperate are these guys to get people to attend? I bought my guide off some small shop and they were also handing out free passes like they were candy. How can these guys make any money with all of these non-paying patrons? It's the weekend before yours too. Very pathetic move on their part as far as i'm concerned.

JL.... your guess as to what they are trying to achieve here is as good as mine.
