What's a 9.0 cost if you don't mind me asking?

A lot more than I wanted to pay :frustrated:

But it is one of my favorite Cole covers.

The 8.0 likely feels under-appreciated now, and needs a new home. :takeit:

I've gotten into crime books this year, and bagged these on eBay last Sunday. All readers, averaging VG condition.

The three in the middle have L.B. Cole cover illustrations.

VG isn't too bad for those books. Congrats!

Love seeing these books for the first time! I'm a newbie in collecting PCH and love seeing what else is out there. :cloud9:

Take a day week and start viewing this thread at Page 1. :kidaround:

(thumbs u I've looked through quite a bit of it. I see once again that you have some of the best books around!! :makepoint:lol

When you're done with this thread, there's still:

And the best reference guide to horror books is the indispensable "Tales too Terrible to Tell" which costs $20 for the complete set:

You'll need to cut & paste the link below into your browser

Just ordered the set, thank you!! (thumbs u That was exactly what I had been looking for. I've been tempted to order some of those DVD compilations on ebay, but was unsure which ones to buy. This makes it alot easier! Will have to check out the other PCH thread as well. I love the sheer variety of titles offering PCH, obviously alot healthier time for comics with so many different publishers, styles, artists, etc,..

Here are some more books that are worthwhile.

Fantastic, thanks for such a varied list! (worship) Just added a few to my Amazon want list for reading after the first batch of reprints you recommended. I had always heard that PCH other than EC was greatly inferior, but I'm finding in many cases that's not true at all. Pleasant surprises and fun discoveries!! :takeit: Nothing like firsthand experience.

There are 1450 pre-code horror books, only 91 of which came from EC. There are great EC covers and stories but I find many of ECs predictable and have found many issues from other publishers that I like as much and or better. When Artboy put his list of his favorite pre-code horror covers only a small portion came from EC.

For me some of the best pre-code covers were done by a guy named Bill Everett over at Atlas/Marvel. Just look at copies of Menace #5 or Venus #17-19 to see the skill set.

LB Cole, Matt Baker,etc... The 1950's was full of fantastic artists before the code and not all worked for EC Comics.

EC was considered the high water mark for horror in the 50s, that is why the other publishers strived to out-horror them. Some publishers had a few classic stories (check out the Classic PCH Stories thread) that went way over the top on gore and horror that it is plain to see why the code came into effect.
