The umpire is calling strikes..................

5,775 posts in this topic

I got zero strikes in 6.5 years, then 3 strikes in a month.

Was it really *me* that was the issue, or the person making that decision....?

meh

Whoever it is that thinks it's necessary to hit the notify button on my posts, please stop.

Thank you.

If there were some consequence to inappropriate or retaliatory button humping, such as a strike going the other way, people might think twice before they hit the button.

A side question, if you care to answer it RMA, how do you know that the notify button is being used on your post? Is there a way to tell from your browser, or do you receive some sort of notification?

If you click the Notify button, it'll tell you if the post has already been flagged. For instance, click on your last post...

If you go to use the notify button, you can see if a post has already been notified.

Now, granted, it takes a certain type of paranoia to check your own posts, but I have had a rash of harassment notifies the last month or so, some of it detailed in the sales discussion thread, so it's made me a little more willing to check lately.

Deathlok got a strike years ago for just doing this. It would be fantastic if they popped a few strikes for what amounts to, in essence, trolling.

I have hit the button on pictures of dog balls and, of course, on myself. :acclaim:

Some people get their 15 minutes of fame through the notify button. I still think it shouldn't be anonymous.

I'm just tired of it. There's nothing wrong with what I posted, it has nothing to do with anyone but me, and it's just someone trying to get something to stick with moderation to "get me in trouble."

It's being done by someone with a serious grudge, who doesn't realize that they do far more harm to themselves carrying this around than they could ever do to me.

It's harassment, plain and simple. This IS the thread to talk about strikes, after all. I'm not bringing it up in every thread, every day.

:eyeroll:

I agree with you.

And I think that if someone (or some group is proven to be) constantly hitting the notify button unnecessarily hitting the button they should be given a strike.

There's so much more to the specific details about this situation here, but I cannot talk about them, for fear of action being taken against me. Chilling effect, indeed.

PS. It was nice chatting with you for a few minutes at Baltimore. I know that time is really valuable for you (as it is for me), so I appreciated it.

If there was a "shaking my fist at you" smilie, I'd use it right now, but there isn't so this will have to do instead: :hi:

I'm so gullible sometimes :D

Deathlok was the one that immediately came to mind for me as well, but I'm sure he's not the only one. Mods don't like being bothered with nonsense just because some insufficiently_thoughtful_person has a grudge.

...and you answered my follow up question without me having to ask it. I'm sorry you've been harassed, that shouldn't be acceptable behavior.

I don't think anyone else got a strike for doing it but Deathlok was doing it specifically with people he had a beef with if I remember right which is what is probably going on here.

The lowest scum are people who start an argument, begin to lose the argument, then start humping the button....

I never even noticed the notify mod button. No matter what someone said, the only way I would ask for a referee was if I thought someone had their account hacked. Everyone is entitled to their bad days. There is also a way to block people. I could care less what people say. Can you really win an argument on the internet?

Can you really win an argument on the internet?

That depends...

Is it an argument of opinion, whereby people attempt to argue that their personal preference is superior to someone else's? In that case...no, never.

Is it an argument of reason, whereby one party speaks from logic and fact, with a firm foundation of common sense, while the other party is arguing from emotion and irrationality? In that case...absolutely, without question yes.

The ruling for 'winner' in internet debates is if one person admits defeat or results to insult-that's a lose.
