Batman V Superman Now Projected For $100M-$140M Opening Weekend

Analysts and executives are currently projecting the film to debut in the $100-$140 million range in its opening weekend. Not only is that a huge range but also consider the fact that many analysts projected Deadpool to take in $70 million in its Valentine's Day weekend opening but it actually hauled more than double the late estimates.

The record for an opening weekend in March is currently held by The Hunger Games with $152.2 million, followed by Alice in Wonderland at $116.1 million.

Batman v. Superman opens over Easter weekend, on Good Friday, in fact. Many school will be closed for the day, opening up additional hours for younger audiences to go watch the super hero showdown, however the recent news of a R-rated release coming to blu-ray could sway some parents in a direction other than theaters with the dark approach DC Comics films are taking cinematically.

The strongest opening weekend for a DC Comics property was The Dark Knight Rises with $160 million and a July opening, narrowly edging The Dark Knight's $158 million. By comparison to other super hero films, the top spots are held comfortably by The Avengers and Avengers: Age of Ultron at $207 million and $191 million, respectively, while other Marvel properties Iron Man 3, Spider-Man 3, an Guardians of the Galaxy all claim spots in the top 10 with $174 million, $151 million, and $91 million in their respective opening weekends.

Deadpool, the only comic book movie of the year so far, reached an audience outside of the typical super hero genre fans and used a brilliant viral marketing campaign for a $132 million 3-day total.

$100MM would be disastrous

Agreed.

Deadpool really set the bar.

I think though Batman vs. Superman will make it's big box office dent with international audiences.

Yeah, Man of Steel did 116 million opening weekend. If BvS doesn't beat that I think the studio would be pretty disappointed.

It will be fine. This is the first estimate to come out. So they are low-balling it right now.

DEADLINE: ‘Batman V. Superman’ Will Battle For March Record As Ticket Pre-Sales Start Monday – Box Office

Batman v. Superman is playing over Easter weekend, which has become a huge launchpad for tentpoles. A majority of schools are off due to Good Friday — 76% of K-12 schools and 45% colleges, according to Rentrak. Still, the Christian high holy day doesn’t curb moviegoing: Furious 7 logged the best opening day ever for April on Good Friday last year, with $67.4M on its way to the best pre-summer opening of all-time at $147.2M. And Batman v. Superman‘s momentum doesn’t cease with Easter weekend: On Monday, March 28, 45% of K-12 schools are off with 15% colleges on break.

Warner Bros would not comment on estimates at this time. Batman v. Superman hits tracking boards next Thursday, which is when there will be a more definite grasp as to where its first FSS is heading. Keep in mind, due to the finite statistical sampling of films debuting north of $100M, record openings are a challenge for many to predict.

For those projecting the higher end of Batman v. Superman‘s opening, it’s a no-brainer: “These are two massive properties coming together,” said one analyst. The title is essentially DC’s attempt at emulating Marvel’s The Avengers by combining four popular superheroes into one film: Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman and Aquaman. While it is not directly based on Frank Miller’s 1986 esteemed Batman comic book miniseries The Dark Knight Returns, Batman v. Superman takes its cues from that comic book’s finale, which shows an armored Batman in a bloody fisticuffs with Superman.

Regarding Ben Affleck, who worked with his Town trainer, Walter Norton Jr, highlights include:

“With Batman, we had to get a physically imposing, powerful look,” says Norton. “And that takes a lot of reps. You have to be in the weight room day after day after day, so it certainly was a process.”

For 15 months, Norton and Affleck trained anywhere from 90 minutes to 2½ hours a day, typically six days on and two days of.

"We often worked out at 5 in the morning, or late at night.”

Training of Gal Gadot for Wonder Woman:

Twight calls this nine-month process — including three months with her, one on one, in Tel Aviv — “challenging and immensely satisfying.” One of the primary challenges: convincing the slender 5'10" Gadot that it was OK to add a significant amount of weight. Twight says it required her to make a transformation in self-image and body image.

“Anytime you present someone with a really radical change, it’s hard to get them to buy in 100% to the idea,” says Twight. “So we took it in incremental steps. We went from a model to a high jumper, in terms of an athletic look. And then once she was comfortable with that, then we’d go a little bit further.”

I didn't realize she is 5'10" tall. No wonder why when she stands next to Ben Affleck, he isn't towering over her.

So this is projected to do Deadpool numbers? Two icons, one movie, zero hype?

It does throw you off when studios or analysts go for the safe numbers and then raise it up from there once the movie is released.

I'm assuming this movie has to start out at a $140 MM (+) domestic weekend and go up from there if it is going to come out strong. If this film closing out opening weekend at $100 MM, something went wrong. Drastically wrong.

BATMAN V SUPERMAN Doomsday Actor Revealed

Robin Atkin Downes has revealed that he “helped bring Doomsday to life” in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice.

The actor did not specify his exact role, but his extensive voice acting credits (Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Batman: Bad Blood, Fallout 4, Game of Thrones and more) suggest that he provided the monster’s voice.

While shopping at my local store I made the mistake of cutting through the Lego section. Loads of great kits out right now - as usual. I ended up purchasing the 'Clash of the Heroes' mini kit.

For $13, Lego put a lot into this little set. There are 92 pieces. And even the capes are nice material. And the Batman figure can be with or without armor, and if you put his head under a little and then put his helmet back on his eyes glow.

A really nice little set!

:applause:

I've already lost one of the Kryptonite cartridges because I shot it at my wife last night lol

lol

Not that you were playing with it for yourself, right? It was just a test run for your son.

:baiting:

I need to find the Wonder Woman figure. It looks like Lego did a really nice job with that one as well. But not the one that came with the other two mini sets (Wonder Woman Pays Superman A Little Visit; Wonder Woman Tells Supes To Get Off His Big Butt). One was a pre-marriage kit, and the other was a post-marriage kit.
