come on guys, it's a fun thread, can't think of the last thread I participated in that was as much fun, beats another pressing thread,

This thread is beyond epic. It has calls to CGC, archival review of the PTO database, and carbon dating!!

Man, I hope everyone knows I was joking about the carbon dating...

I too would like to know which came first, and it may turn out to be nothing, but it is fun, I think some people are nervous that BA12 might not be the first app. of Harley, going so far as to call this "Almost Got Im" book a "toy" or "children's book", but I say wasn't BA12 not long ago dismissed as a childrens book due to the art and the disconnect to DC continuity?

if cover price was on these book/tape books were originally $8.00, then I'm in to them for $16 total, If it turns out to be the 2nd Harley Quinn, I'm sure the book's value has risen to new heights and probably will be on more collector's radars either way.

I agree I have enjoyed this. And yes I quite sure BA 12 owners got nervous. Whether they admit it or not. Id consider this book a comic any which way. I don't care of they OP has 1 or 50 copies Id still like to have known either way. At $10 which is what most paid for their copy they cant go wrong this book will fetch way over that.

Just heard back from CGC......take this for what it's worth: CGC WILL NOT GRADE THIS "Almost Got 'Im" book. They do not consider it "technically" to be a comic.

And this is why even if it was proven to be a "first appearance", it would never reach the heights that BA12 has. There could never be a 9.8, never a Signature Series copy, or never even a .5. CGC doesn't consider it a comic.

Not a comic?! I'm shocked!!!

;)

So what does it take to be a comic ? Is an ashcan a comic ? How about Farlaine ? That book is oversized and opens the wrong way. lol

I'm just having fun with you. I just don't see CGC as defining what is and what is not a comic.

rj, you should evaluate the source of data before quoting it. Your wiki cite is a joke too.

divad, what is your beef with me? That Wiki link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cover_date explains exactly what the cover date is and why it is a few months in the future of the release date. Seriously, I've cited my information and didn't throw out incorrect facts like "vendors could return any unsold book to the distributor after 30-days for full credit." If you read the Wiki link, Paul Levitz's book, 75 Years of DC Comics: The Art of Modern Mythmaking" is one of the entries sources. I think the former editor and president of DC knows a thing or 2 about why the cover date is what it is.

Where is your source for that "fact" you mentioned?

How about, I was there.

When did I ever say Comichron is associated with Diamond?

Twice actually:

So, the book was distributed in January 1995 according to Diamond, but was published in February 1995 according to the Copyright registration database. I've seen other books off by as much as 3 months in the Copyright registration database when compared to the Diamond charts.

Precisely. Under the rules expressed by the naysayers here, Mouse Guard certainly doesn't qualify as a comic . . .

it is weird how those "publication" dates seem to have a real disconnect with with 2-3 month cover date situation we've seen for years. my "offering" alternative theory makes no sense in that regard as well as there's no way the book is first being "offered" (in advance) for sale in August with a Sept. cover, but making an "offer" date the same as a publication makes perfect sense...otherwise you could have a preview in July about this great new comic coming out in September about a baby boy from another planet that explodes sent to earth on a spaceship by his parents to save him who turns out to have super powers on earth due to the color of our sun...and someone could copy your idea by pumping something out in August and beat you to "publication"

Publication (as to commercially available items, e.g., periodicals and serial publications) means the date of first distribution for sale.

I would posit that the DC legal filer was not necessarily diligent in his work. The Marvel dates I showed as an exemplar are consistent with the 2-3 month (or more) lag date we have always observed regarding sale date vs. cover date (and indicia for that matter.)
