The Blue Bolt run is fantastic. I especially want issue 124, after it turned into Ghostly Weird. Love that cover. Very creepy. Spook 28 and Thrilling Crime 49 are also at the top of my list.

Most folks usually cite the 108, 111 or 115 as their favorite, but tastes do vary.

What, no love for 114? confused-smiley-013.gifsmirk.gif

When it comes to LB Cole, it's all good! thumbsup2.gif

In other posts I've made the point that I LB Cole's premier run is the Blue Bolts and that it inspired me to get into GA-esoteric collecting. I know that it would not be easy for me to pick just one favorite out of the run.

Definitely agree, the Blue Bolt run has a nice mix of sci-fi covers and horror covers. Here's a fan site with some of the covers.

They're all great, but 105 gets my vote! cloud9.gif

foreheadslap.gif Scratch 108 from my list. 105, 111, and 115 are the ones I hear cited most frequently. I'm definitely getting old.

No need to scratch it, the 108 is great too! I've owned two versions of this book, the "regular" version pictured below, and what I believe was a Canadian version (reprint?) with a "variant" cover that appears to be missing one of the colors. I didn't like the variant one at all though, and as such, I no longer have it. As I haven't seen another copy since, perhaps I should have held on to it! foreheadslap.gif

When I was collecting Coles, the #108 was very high on my list and I never did snag one. I agree, tough in any grade, and that rich black cover is especially unforgiving in low grade.

You know, this thread has so many of his covers posted, it would be cool to make a list of what is here and what is missing so we could fill it out with at least one example of each of his covers.

Did I volunteer? shy.gifblush.gif

Not to be a wet blanket or anything, but LB Cole drew over 1500 covers.

Well then we've got some work to do, don't we......I hope the CGC servers have the space! I'll compile a list of what is here.

Great! I know I tried to attach most of the images so they would remain integral to this thread, but if you come across any dead picture links of mine, I can re-post those as attached images as well. thumbsup2.gif

Yes, I will. I am only going to link to those that are on the CGC servers, and will be noting those that were posted but are being hosted elsewhere... I hope to have a list this week or next.

By the way, I think the previous poster is right about the number of LB Cole covers, but that 1500 must include all the non-comic work he did. I think we're looking more at like 2-300 for comic books. (Not that I wouldn't want to see all 1500 :-) Does that sound right to everyone?

I just checked the article (CBM 30) and the 1500 is total covers for comics and other media. I think the comics number is larger than the 200-300 and GCD is probably the best place to run a quick estimate. The majority of his covers were for Continental and Star.

Here's Power Comics 4, an LB Cole cover I haven't seen here before. I love not just the handling of the eagle, but the bold color scheme on this one...it really has that classic 1940s GA look to it, and must have really screamed on the newsstands! The interiors are similar to Suspense Comics, above average art & stories for the time.
