I don't watch many of the animated movies, but recently watched The Dark Knight Returns 1 and 2 and thought those were excellent.
I envy you. Most of the animated efforts you will discover for the first time are better than the ones in theaters.

 

They make excellent counter-programming during the in-betweens of the live action ones.

 

You're about watch B v S, check out Superman: Doomsday, after watching B v S, watch Batman/Superman: Public Enemies.

 

Sometimes, even the lesser ones don't feel that awful. I guess I'll have to watch Batman: Bad Bood and Mask of the Phantasm to complete my DC checklist.

Just watched DK2 after watching BvS. DK2 wasn't the best of the best animated, but I cared a lot more about batman in the cartoon than I did in BvS.

 

I think you're in for a treat with Under the Red Hood. I really enjoyed Nightwing and Jason Todd.

I picked up Justice League vs. Teen Titans.

It has Taissa Farmiga's voice talent in it (maybe she plays Raven?), so I said what the heck even though I haven't bought Batman: Bad Blood yet. She was so good in The Final Girls, I figured I would follow-up on another one of hers tonight.

I've been watching comedies "The Final Girls", "This Is The End" and "The World's End", so I figure I can squeeze this one in and keep an open mind.

First of all when I watch these I don't expect Vertigo or The 39 Steps type quality.

 

There has been twenty pretty solid entries to this brand.

 

Sadly, this is not a better one.

 

After seeing no Shazam, I had high hopes this was going to be in the somewhat same league of Son of Batman. But despite the promise of strong voice over work by Farmiga, some sexy Starfire animation and a pretty complex plot involving Raven, it degenerated into random cliches, a Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen dance off between Damian and Beast Boy and a fart joke hurting it's chance to be taken even remotely seriously.

 

Besides rushed animation in spots, Jon Bernthal voice also seemed dial in.

 

Probably a great one for the kiddies, but I don't see myself revisting this one anytime soon. Where has the always reliable DC Animated productions gone? :(

 

Keep watching the end credits for the appearance of another Titan.

Batman: Bad Blood (three out of four stars)

I have vowed to take a half a star from all DC animated productions if I ever see one fart joke, a dance off or hear Sean Astin play Shazam.

This one didn't use any of those items, so it automatically gets a half a star as a lifeline. lol

Though despite being an engaging Bat movie, sadly it has a bit too many heroes in it. Mainly, a new one called Nightwing, which felt like a DC answer to Iron Man. His main power, the ability of convenience of being in the right spot to use his powers.

I think they really didn't need him. There might have been a little suspense during the climax.

But, other than that it would have been a more solid movie to end the Damian trilogy. Instead, we want to back things up to start it "Under The Red Hood" and end it with "Batman vs. Robin (its Skyfall, I guess.) Making this one an unnecessary "Spectre" one-off.

Interesting and welcome character addition before the credits, yet so unexplained with no build up it felt more like a "stunt" at first.

Swear word alert for the wee ones (one "individual_without_enough_empathy" and two "person_without_enough_empathy" words.)

I'd sooner take her trying to get to a Beiber concert while saving the world, than the way they wrote Shazam in War any day. Take Shazam out of War and Atlantis and they crawl up the list. (thumbs u

I loved the Superman/Shazam movie. It was a great little animated film. Especially with Black Adam as the villain.

 

Even better, the DVD comes with DC Nation Shorts from Jonah Hex, Green Arrow and Spectre.

I liked the idea of a bunch of kids making him up and the "Superman/Shazam!: Return of Black Adam" short was a good time as well.

 

So here's my quandary. I loved "The Killing Joke," I have an issue with it's storytelling. Like "Superman/Shazam" it feels like two extended shorts and not a whole movie.

 

I liked the Batgirl prologue during the first 30 minutes. I really didn't care about her knocking Bat booties with Bats on a rooftop, but what bugged me was that it builds up this Paris baddie and just ignores him, to better service the next 47 minutes with the Joker. It seriously blunts Batgirl's character arc. Meaning there is no payoff!

 

The Killing Joke segment is gloriously demented, but literally has nothing to do with the beginning other than staring into the abyss of one's psyche.

 

I can't make up my mind to award it a perfect rating or just say it's a solid entry in the DC animation movies. It's definitely the best thing to be released since "Batman: Assault on Arkham," but it's not really a well constructed movie. After watching "Mask of the Phantasm" last night, it doesn't quite hold a candle to it's power. I'm just going to say it's a really good experiment and a good step in a better direction for their animation efforts.
