Here is the only Aniti-Communism Comic that I know of in my collection.

My understanding is that this book is the first published comic with Charles Schultz artwork in it. If I'm wrong, forgive me for my error.

I also noticed that mine is slightly different than the other scans I saw. I can't remember if mine is an early printing or later printing. I just snagged it as soon as I saw it. This was bought from Ward Batty who worked for the CSN magazine. He had a short-lived store in the metro Atlanta area.

Windy City copy?

Surely not. I don't know anything about the history of the comic other than who I bought it from.

The A. Wallace name on the left side of the front cover is one of the Windy City markings so it is almost certain that's where the book came from.

It's just like me to end up with a pedigree comic and not even know it. So odd. Thanks.

Absolutely the Windy City copy. Always great to see one surface with Anna Wallace's name.

Just picked this one up on the bay for fairly cheap... Should tide me over until a nicer one comes along. The page quality looks pretty good and the rest of the book I thought was pretty sharp for the price, aside from that one upper corner of course.

Thanks to eccomic, I was able to add this beauty to my collection.

Took me quite a while to obtain a copy but one more book off of my list. Actually pretty interesting reading. I have attached the complete story from www.ep.tc.

America Under Socialism

That's really a tough one to locate. Congrats on the pickup.

Was happy to pick this one up (for way over OPG):

Not a book that seems to get much love. HA has only one sale in its archives -- a raw a couple of years ago -- and this copy is the only one in the census. The Catechetical Guild's anti-Communist books seem to attract collectors, while their strictly religious books don't. Maybe because of the title and cover image, people may consider this book to be one of their religious ones. Actually, though, it's a denunciation of the "show trial" of Cardinal Mindszenty by the postwar Communist government of Hungary. So, I think it fits in the anti-Communist category.

Any thoughts on the relative obscurity of this book? Or is it more widely known and collected than I think?

Surely the Cardinal Mindszenty book doesn’t look so sought after like "Is This Tomorrow" or other anti-communist pamphlets… very likely because as you say it’s not mostly that.

As a catholic I must admit I was a little surprised by the "american" flavor of the Treasure Chest books as I discovered them – they lack the universality which should be the hallmark of catholic faith – but as you get into it you’ll see there is little of anti-communist propaganda (which lies more in the pamphlets, which are not necessarily from the Catechetical Guild) and besides the strictly catechetical aspects they also feature other strips of artistic value.

I have collected the life of Pope John XXIII which has been wonderfully illustrated by Joe Sinnott (he delayed to accept Stan Lee’s offer to accept a full-time inking job on the FF to keep faithful to the commitment), and this has given me a glimpse on the contents.

Did you won the copy recently auctioned by Sparkle City? I was following that. :)

Yes, this is the copy Sparkle City recently auctioned. I would have liked to have picked up the copy HA auctioned a couple of years ago -- although raw, it was described as being higher grade -- but was asleep at the switch.

I just picked up a Cardinal Mindzenty along with other Catholic mags and some Treasure Chests from the early 1950s. This is the second copy I've owned in 35 years.

That's a great pick-up, congrats! I track this book all the time and own some raw copies. It is on e-bay several times year. Rarely in high grade. Seldom seen at shows or in auctions.

Nice pickup sir. It doesn't come around too often. There was a time a few years ago when anytime it did it would spark a nasty bidding war. I just think all the other antiC guys have their copies already?

Well, there was another bidder, besides Sqeggs, which raised the auction price.

I am unaware of any B&W copies out there outside of the two slabbed copies, which happen to be owned by members of this board.

Many thanks, I did not read your reply before. So there is not a chance to see the insides?

I take the opportunity, since Mark was roaming around… :D I wonder if there are raw copies somewhere, I would be really interested even just in pictures of the inside pages.
