Wizard World Cleveland -- February 20-22, 2015

I heard the show was really busy today. Someone I know set up and said it didn't have much to buy. Maybe next year it will bring in more dealers? I suspect the ones selling actual comics and toys did pretty well with a crowd this big. I can also imagine it would draw better next year if the weather would be a little better. Really brutal weekend here in NEO.

Didn't see a few of the local dealers. Maybe this show not in budget after Mid Ohio. Cleveland streets are terrible. Torn up and lotsa orange barrels. I'll probably go again next year. Didn't realize all of the other activities going on. Should have read the back of the map hand out I got. doh!

This has been a really busy con. Cleveland has been waiting for something like this. The people are spending money and staying all day. Chasing people out at closing time. I really like the 7 month separation from WW Columbus. That should keep the two cons from competing with each other.

I was completely wrong on all fronts in regards to this Con. The crowds were crazy busy and a lot of them seemed to at least be buying some dollar comics. It was great seeing Harley again and there was some great deals if you hunted a bit. I didn't see too many scantily clad women but there was plenty of Cos Play.

Maybe a February con in Cleveland isn't such a terrible idea... hm

Who'd have guessed that?

This Con sold out Saturday and Sunday and one dealer sold over 500 high dollar books.

Only Comic Con to feature an official NFL mascot (Go Chomps!) and even the Mayor took

time out of his busy schedule to be part of the action.

Where else can you walk 5 minutes from a Convention Con to Hard Rock Cafe, House of Blues, 3 tier mall, Rock Hall of Fame and world class Casino. Only in Cleveland

I made the trip from Wisconsin to visit with fam and see my hometowns first con. Hot after attending Madison I set my bar really low and I was shocked at how much I enjoyed Cleveland WW. Glad it did well as I'll be moving back there eventually and having a show like this will be enjoyable.

Even if I wasn't going for books they brought Corey Feldman so being a huge goonies fan, him rarely touring especially outside of CA, for me it was a must. Additionally I actually found some books! Rarely do I walk away with books anymore and I caught some deals. Overall I wish there were more book dealers, actually there were 3 of the same ppl from Madison there so that limited me even more with my potential findings because their book stock hadn't changed much in 2 weeks.

Despite the weather the show rocked saturday and this is a great con for young kids/adults. I hope it lasts so I'll have a show to take my kids to once they're of decent age.

Glad the show was a success! Though, scheduling the show every February in winter will prevent it from realizing its potential in terms of attendees, out-of-town dealers, etc. Sorry to be a Debbie Downer about this.

They must be getting a good deal on the rental, though. Not many conventions happening in Cleveland in the middle of winter.

The summer calendar is pretty stacked, so scheduling February shows in the snow belt is kind of inevitable. I still think it'd be better to move this show to like late September or October and put the San Antonio show in this date range (plenty of distance from Alamo City) but apparently Wizard is sticking to this scheduling at least through 2016. I'm just curious to see where Madison and Indy end up. One other wrinkle to consider is that Wizard is doing Portland a week prior to Cleveland, and has to pray that they don't encounter delays trucking their gear across an area very prone to bad weather...

And FYI, it is currently snowing in the Texas panhandle so it isn't like the south is immune to bad February weather...

In the past -- and that doesn't mean that this is how it should be or anything -- the big multi-day shows were in the spring and summer, and the small, regional, one-day shows were in the fall and winter. With Wizard, however, they want to fill up the year, and they're probably looking at maximizing the deals whenever they can.

While I heard nothing good about the Madison show, this one did extremely well.

Yeah, it looks like this 10.5 month show schedule will continue, at least for the time being. Wizard starts up in early January with NO, and wraps up in November with Reno. They're up to something like 25 shows now, and it will be interesting to see how many of them are still going strong in 5 years time.

I'm sure you've had this experience, but the shows of today are no longer anything like the shows of years past. Wizard seems to have tapped into some new pool of demand, particularly where cosplay is concerned. But as long as this gives me a few opportunities to buy books I can live with that. I will admit to really enjoying smaller shows lately, they do tend to offer more bang for the buck to someone mainly interested in shopping for books. Chicago seems to really be the only Wizard show that has kept a heavy comic focus, at least in my experience...

Show was great. Did well and the other dealers i talked to did very well too. 1 said it was his best ever. After that disaster show indianapolis 2 weeks ago, this was great. Had a great buy friday morning from a collection a dealer brought in and because friday was great, saturday and sunday customers got crazy deals on keys. Half off on some keys, others didnt lower prices but threw in keys. One deal fell through because i couldnt get reception on my phone and i have paypal here instead of square, changing that, and another customer overheard the deal and i guess waited until the guy left and jumped on it. I will be back next year. I love ohio. So good to me.
