My point is not everyone will be able to match value for value. Some may only be able to genuinely give a fraction in return but it is given with the same level of generousness as the item they claimed. Should that prevent them from taking part? I would hope not but that is how it is coming across.

 

You passion for this project is evident. Please know that is seen and recognized.

 

These two phrases pretty much underline the problem: as much one might be passionate about this, it seems one must conform to a fixed idea of generosity.

Generosity, by its very first nature, would not worry at all about what is given in return. This thread is laid on abiguous bases.

It has been brought to my attention, that my offer might not be quite up to par. I don't think I really have anything else worth adding to "sweeten the deal", so I am going to rescind my on the ASM 50.

 

I have been watching this thread for a while, and I would hate to be the nail in the coffin, so to speak.

 

I will keep my eye on the thread, and look out for something of lower value next time.

I know the person who only takes is living a lonely existence. I felt for both the boy and the tree. The boy for always chasing happiness which he would find right where he started from and for the tree because she deserved recognition for her selflessness. I also greatly admired her for being so selfless and that she was never diminished for the giving.

I was not around during the inception but that was the format used with the PIF thread. Sounds like lessons were learned the hard way and the current rules were put in place to avoid some of those mistakes from being repeated.

And I'm not even concerned about matching value for value dollar wise. There are things in our hobby that are worthless to some and priceless to others. I think it was more of the "Choose one" and what happened after that bothered me. That's evident. But it's just this sense of "good enough" that I mentioned in a post a few pages back that bothered me. Anyone watching the PIF thread would see that. Your offering shouldn't JUST be based on $, but it should be worth something to you. You should feel it in your gut that you don't really WANT to give it up, but you do anyway. You are proud of it and hope someone really enjoys it. In the last offering, after the "Choose One" option was dismissed, the same offers were tweaked up a bit to get to a certain "dollar amount" threshold with a sense of "this should be good enough."

 

That will always be my problem and I'll always remain outspoken about it. I'm sorry if it sounds but it's just the reasoning behind this thread.

People can, and will, take everything they can, leaving nothing (or next to nothing) in return.

 

It's why we can't have nice things.

 

Swick's got every right to defend the viability of his thread and enforce his rules.

 

Honestly, I believe people should see the offer, realize internally if they can or cannot give in kind, and either post or walk away depending on their realization.

Here is my first offer which is pretty sweet if I do say so. Its a limited edition post card designed, signed and sketched by our own Shiverbones. It was limited to just 25 and the sketch on the back was done in black ink. Very heavy paper on this one - perfect for framing with one of his other pieces.

Because I would like the opportunity to prove that my offer was not about greed or trying to cheat anyone. Almost everyone seemed to be quick at slamming my offer and/or calling my reasoning for going with $40-$50 range BS.

 

So while it is still on everyone's mind, I want to be able to do the right thing. I will not accept any offers or RAKs for a month but I'm okay with someone taking mine if they want. No reason I should have to wait on giving to others…..

I don't understand your reasoning. I sent you an idea of combining several of your offerings into one big offer and you said you could not or would not do that. Now you are giving away the batch of books and stuff even though its currently against the rules.
