eBay auction isn't great for rare books - if the right people don't see it there's no bidding war and it can go for cheap. If you happen to be the one who discovers it   . .

Well I've concluded that although Heritage more consistently has great stuff compared to their competition it's gotten to the point where if you want something you need to come to terms with the harsh reality that you're going to have to pay out the wazoo for it. Much more often than not. Golden age at least.

I see a funky one at the bottom, so I'll bite on the mags per usual,

Stirring Adventures 1942-01, recognized that quick from Heritage in October

Secret Love Revelations 1942-01

Another funky title, lasted 2 issues, never seen one before but now I want one.  James Cagney here, the other ish has a Bogart cover.  Since we're at this place I'll even put one up in one of these silly blue boxes (not to mention the reds are fantastic)

one last oddball, Intimate Confessions v01n01, likely a one-shot

EDIT: OOPS, thought I'd landed in the newsstands thread, muh bad, messing up the Centaur-ness (shrug)

I recognize a few magazines as well. This is a standout: Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney on the cover of the January 1942 issue of Movie Life.

Did anyone watch/bid on the MCS Oxford Collection of GA #1s auction?  They had some incredible books including Star 1 raw vg+ for $6K, Star Ranger 1 in 4.0 for $1800, AMF 1 in 7.0 for $9K, Detective Eye 1 in 8.0 at almost $5K, Little Giant Movie Funnies 1 in 8.0 for $3300, Uncle Joe's Funnies in 3.0 for $975, and a Comics Magazine 1 in 6.5 that did around $23K(!).  The graded books were all CBCS but seemed like that didn't hurt things too much given the scarcity (although a few seemed over-graded).  Frankly it was the most impressive offering of extremely rare books in one auction that I've seen in a long time.  Sadly got shut out on my bid attempts...

Nada for me

Think the upcoming CC Event auction will have an ever bigger offering of rarities. No images on many of the books yet, but WOW....

I don't really undrstand the connection or maybe better said the transformation of how Comics Magazine Company became Centaur Publications. I've read about it, can't really understand it. Also some titles like Star Comics and Star Rangers say Harry A Chesler as publisher which confuses me more. And how Ultem Publications fits in.

Cliff Notes version; Comics Magazine started in 1936 and Chesler in 1937.  In late 1937, Ultem published for, then took over Funny Pages and Funny Picture Stories from Comics Magazine.  Around same time, Ultem took over both Chesler titles, keeping Harry Chesler on as Editor (suspect Chesler's shop was contributing material to all three companies).  In early 1938, Centaur took over all 4 Ultem titles - over next couple years, Centaur launched several new titles.

In late 1939, Centaur owners formed a sister company, Comic Corporation of America, to publish Amazing-Man and related titles, then added comic digests in late 1941.  Though Comic Corporation of America stopped publishing comic books in 1942, they continued to publish comic digests until at least 1946.
