Since we are talking UK editions :shy:

very cool book - I haven't seen before!

Obviously not a "UK variant" as in "pence variant" as these are L Miller books published in the UK

Interesting tha CGC use the same designation for both though....

And speaking of ultra-rare "foreign reprints" - here's another one of my pride and joys...

Triumph no.772 from Aug 1939 (British)

Superman's 1st appearance outside America

original cover by John McCail

ok, that is cool. i think the original cover art puts that on a different footing, except you can't see the "S" on him

This is pretty cool!

thanks!!!!

actually recently sold, but loved owning such a great book

the "S" is not seen I guess because it had yet to become iconic in anyway... British artists were not used to drawing Superheroes in 1939!

That is a super cool book and I suspect not many of these will be easy to get a hold of, but it is a totally different thing to what is being discussed in this thread, this is a UK reprint rather than a US printed copy.

I would love to have one either way :)

Well if CGG can't make the distinction what chance to others who don't understand the difference? doh!

EXACTLY. Unfortunately, CGC has decided to officially act with passivity when it comes to foreign books, and I have heard second-hand tales of CGC employees expressing annoyance towards submitters of foreign books. Of course, none of that is on record or official stance, BUT, it's clear that they don't make the effort to even note the correct publisher in 98% of cases.

Makes you think. :taptaptap:

I see that there is a bound copy of Triumph issues up on EBay right now.

Can't find it, could you post a link please?

We were talking about the pence copy indicia some pages back

I happened to be grading some pence TOS from 1965-67 (see earlier pic)

I noted that all of the indicia's are identical to the cents copies and don't say "distributed by Thorpe & Porter" (like on the ASM no.1)

they all say "Printed in the USA by the Eastern Color Printing Co" (or words to that effect)

Also, the later pence copies carry the date, which earlier ones don't....

I think that is PGC Mint's EBay handle?

I believe this was the volume sold on Heritage in 2004

It doesn't have no.772 however but the paper looks very nice

These guys are smart. What do they see that we're missing?

Is this the 1st time an ad for pence copies has come up in the OSG? If so, that's an indicator that there is more interest in Pence.

well I guess they're seeing what every astute collector is seeing - an upsurge and demand and prices? Similarly with the whole "foreign" market

it's a healthy development

Anyone notice the ST110 7.5 UK edition that just sold 10 days ago?

It sold for $5300!!!!!

If my math is correct that's basically 90% of the 12 month average of the cent copy.

I'm telling you guys..... there is a pence market right now!

I missed that, where did it sell?
