Really wanna get my hands on a Saga 1 RRP amongst other things, but I'm pretty new to collecting.

I did recently get a Preacher CGC 9.2 for super cheap. A Southern Bastards DCBS CGC 9.8 ss. All the East of West 1 variants except RRP, but all 9.8.

A couple that I just love: manifest Destiny 1 a & b CGC 9.8.

 

Pretty fun start to the madness!!!

I eventually wanna start getting some slabbed, but a lot of people I talk to tell me that it's an extremely expensive road to go down. Any feedback?

 

It definitely gets expensive. You have to be judicious with what you submit. I do mostly Moderns. I've gotten to the point where I can tell pretty well what will be a 9.8. I've submitted a few batches of books to them recently. Got grades back today on the first batch. 15 out of 17 were 9.8, 1 was 9.6, and 1 was 9.2 (wah wah).

 

Another consideration is whether you plan to sell them or keep them for your personal collection. If for your pc, then you don't have to worry so much about their value. If to sell, then you have to cross-check whether the potential grade makes sense for the submission (use www.gpanalysis.com). It's definitely worth the investment once you get to that point where you know you are submitting books that will be worth much more coming back rather than buying them already graded for the high dollar amount.

 

Still, the costs initially will add up quickly, so be careful. If you live in an area that has one of the big conventions that CGC attends, I'd advise submitting some books through them there first just to see how it all works. It can get very confusing since you have to figure out the service levels, and then try to predict the grades and subsequent values. Let them walk you through it. (Note: Do NOT purchase a CGC membership to track submissions given to CGC at a convention. They will give you a copy of the invoice(s) that they fill out for you, which you can track for free on their site. Plus, you will not be able see grades regardless since they would not have been submitted through your account. I learned that lesson. Twice. Ugh.)

 

The Number 1 rule though is....collect what you enjoy. Try not to fall into a habit of buying books just because they're hot at the moment. Unless you're super rich, then by all means, buy them all. lol

It can get expensive. Just have a clear focus because it can get out of hand lol

For me its the Uncanny X-Men #297 Pressman Variant. I've been trying to buy a 9.8 copy of that book to have signed for almost two years now and every time I have funds for it something happens and I have to either put it off or the copy I have my eyes set on disappears.

I figure I've owned a Wolverine #1 JSC variant... and sold it.

 

I've owned a Walking Dead #1 and sold it.

 

Bat that book... That book is a screw you my children daddies getting buried with it book.

What's the deal with this one? Is it b/c it's a newsstand book ($2.25) instead of just the 25-cent version?

 

I remember there was an FF book that was really tough to find the regular price.

 

I bought a few of these Xmen's when they came out based on that. How much is the X-book going for? I might have to pull them out of storage.

 

Yes its the error because of the 2 prices. There is an FF and an Avengers error too.

 

All tough to find with X-men being CRAZY hard

Yes oak they are rare. Last 9.8 sold for over a grand. There is more info on recalled comics web site. I have seen the x book and avengers , never have seen or heard of the FF book.

Let's not forget Wolverine 145 Bone claw error... I have one of the 5 copies at 9.6.... just out of curiosity I used a stock image listed it at 9.6 ungraded got a solid offer at 1100... this was a few years ago haven't seen one listed at any grade... can't help but wonder what it would go for today...
