OtherEric
I'm thankful for everyone in this thread, it's been a friendly and delightful place ever since it started, with none of the disagreements I've seen so many other places on the internet, and even elsewhere in these forums. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, everybody! IngelsFan, adamstrange, Jayman and 1 other
Popular Post Ameri
Recent Pickup. Looney Tunes #2. A well-loved copy for sure. The Elmer story has Bugs Bunny as Bugs' Bunny with an apostrophe throughout the story. Some kind of error there. Porky seemed to be the favorite in 1941, followed by Bugs and then Elmer Fudd. Other characters in the book like a penguin and fox eventually fell by the wayside. Daffy is at the top of the cover but he doesn't appear in the book. Nice, I still don't have any of the first three issues. The Bugs' Bunny in the Elmer story is almost certainly deliberate, if somewhat obsolete even at the time the book came out. The prototype version of Bugs showed up in a cartoon directed by Ben "Bugs" Hardaway, so some early internal documentation refers to the character as Bug's bunny or Bugs' bunny. This was changed in early promotional material but the character was still new enough at this point that I could see uncertainty in the name still. pemart1966, Jayman, IngelsFan and 1 other

I just thought the apostrophe might be an inker's mistake. Many thanks for the information on Hardaway.

The documentary I watched explained how all the artists were given the task of drawing a rabbit character. They then all voted and chose one. Who’s is that, someone asked? It’s Bugs’ bunny. And the name stuck. MrBedrock

Popular Post sagii
Grab from this year, 1st appearance of Honey Bunny. Warners was always looking for an 'answer' to Minnie Mouse. There were examples in ads where Honey looked like Bugs with a bow between her ears (ala Minnie>Mickey), but those just looked like Bugs in one of his drag bits. It wasn't until decades later they finally got the formula right with Space Jam and the introduction of Lola Bunny (a popular character with people who maybe were introduced to Looney Tunes trough that film), I believe this version of Honey Bunny was the 'prototype' for Lola. OtherEric
In today. Only 4 Four Colors with Looney Tunes to go, and only one Porky Pig. That's #16, the Porky Pig #1. Which will generally cost more than #48 with Carl Barks art, but is actually easier to find from what I've seen. Jayman and comicjack
