Man that is pretty brutal. Never seen that one before. That title is pretty bland usually. Another one for the want list...

 

I only have the first two issues of CMPTP, which are both pretty violent. In general the covers are pretty bland for the whole run, so I haven't picked them up. I guess I should comb through the Digital Comics Museum to see which other issues have violent content. Interestingly around the time this title started, along with graphic crime books put out by Fox and DS, the original, CDNP, was toning their violence way down from the early years.

A recent acquisition, Crime Does Not Pay #25 from January 1943.

 

I would never go so far as to say Wertham was right, but some of these pre-code comics certainly did push the limits.

Have always loved the cover on this one. Never seen an interior shot. Nice!

 

That Crime Does Not Pay is one of my favorites too.

While the superhero titles decreased the number of crime comics kept increasing. Some were more brutal than CDNP and others had more GGA. Stories illustrated by Mort Leav are always fun to read. He had a flair for the media.
