Oh you mean this copy???

9a9s69q.jpg

I passed on it thinking Harley was asking way too much, but apparently you had the brains to realize this book is in explosion mode. Congrats.

most all passed...the foxing on FC got me...I'm more about FC appeal than "grade"...

As discussed with Tony, have it cleaned (if possible) and I'm sure you'll find interested parties, myself included.

you can only eliminate foxing with chemicals...making it "restored"...lessening value I suspect...

I think there is a possibility that dry cleaning might improve the book, although, of course, it won't eliminate all the staining. Harley also said he thought the book might benefit from a press.

I guess we'll see whether Tec 40 maintains its current momentum. If so, this copy looks like a good deal even at Harley's asking price.

I was tipped off about the book from another boardie (and am very appreciative to him for it).

While I wasn't thrilled at his asking price, the more I thought about it, the more I felt it was reasonable.

Now many will disagree and feel I overpaid (and to a degree I may have), but here's my logic behind the acquisition:

1) it's a book I've wanted for a while...I like to collect villain first appearances and its first Joker cover as well (or so many believe, including me)

2) the book doesn't come up for sale that often; there's only 40 Universal copies on the census. This is the only 6.0 and there are 2 6.5's. There are no 7.0's and 1 7.5. So if the two 6.5's aren't available, then I'm probably SOL on getting a copy. I mean, there are only 8 copies graded higher than the 6.0....so not exactly common

3) it fit my grade range and PQ criteria

4) the noticeable flaws do not bother me

After that, I figured that the book was worth more than most (if not all) of the people looking at it. I felt it was worth well more than one particular dealer offered Harley so we worked out a deal to get it.

I don't see any downside...so I'm happy.

I thought it was a 9-10K copy, personally...and it still "may" be, or it may be a 15-20K copy now...in this market, who the heck knows...

as Donald said, it checked his boxes, and he took chance to get...good for him (thumbs u

I wasn't calling you out by any means. You felt the book was worth $9 to $10k and I felt it was worth a little bit more. In all honesty, I felt it was worth maybe $11k tops and since I did a cash and trade, I had to offer a little more.

I moved a book that had zero action for over 6 months and a little cash and got the book.

Maybe it's worth more now...maybe it's not. I certainly would like to see another big sale to confirm a leg up.

FWIW, it's not going anywhere for the time being...even in this crazy market.

You know the market is nuts when a Tec 225 in 7.0 breaks five figures. I could have bought the same book a yearish ago for less thank $3k. Felt it was overpriced then... :ohnoez:
