Bosco685
I have a feeling Scott Mendelson (one of the primary Forbes.com reviewers) is not 100% on-board. Edited March 7, 2019 by Bosco685

Give it a few more hours. I'm sure the comic book movie fatigue will kick in. This is the first of many great movies to come in 2019...excited. Bosco685
Zaki's Review: Captain Marvel Quote Say what you want about the by-the-numbers nature of many of these MCU “origin” stories, but one thing they’ve consistently gotten right is introducing their leads in a way that clearly demonstrates what their arc will be. We get Tony Stark. We get Steve Rogers. Stephen Strange. Scott Lang. Thor, even. Instead, Captain Marvel presents us with a cipher at the start (by design, which is fine) who remains just as much of a cipher at the end. So what was all this for except to move a few toys around? As a result, by the time Carol embraces the destiny promised by the title, it feels rote instead of rapturous. It happens because it’s supposed to happen. That’s a pretty big problem when the goal (one presumes) is to launch a whole new series. As the 21st entry in the endlessly unfurling Marvel Cinematic Universe, Captain Marvel has the unenviable task of queueing up a brand new hero and franchise while also planting seeds that will blossom in time for Avengers: Endgame to arrive next month and bring the curtain down on three phases of storytelling. And while it ably accomplishes the latter, it stumbles with the former. With Black Panther’s record-breaking success (not to mention its slate of Academy Award nominations), one could be forgiven for hoping Captain Marvel would also play at that level. And while the fact that it doesn’t shouldn’t necessarily be taken as a ding against it, whether those expectations themselves are a good thing or a bad thing is something I suspect will vary depending on who’s watching. It’s probably a bridge too far to call Captain Marvel a miss. It's not. But it also doesn't do what it needs to truly stand on its own. It's the most reliant of any of the company's series-starters on the “Marvel Studios” brand itself to do the heavy lifting, which I suppose does feel like a miss of sorts. This is a film that’s so fully ensconced within the MCU apparatus that there are enough continuity tie-ins and new bits of business to keep the faithful enthralled, but in all of that it fails to create a central character who warrants the effort. Who is Carol Danvers? I’m still not sure. C+

Popular Post meshuggah
Just saw it. Spoiler free basic review. It was a good origin and I give it 3.5 stars overall. Definitely not Guardians 1 or Avengers 1or 3. But its definitely not the worst MCU movie either. I thought Brie Larson was good in the role. Not an oscar performance but that doesn't matter to me. Jude Law was great as Yon Rogg. There's a nice tribute to Stan at the beginning during the Marvel Studios logo which everyone clapped for at my viewing. Popular Post Buzzetta
Spoiler Free Just got back... - the movie exceeded expectations. Those of us 35-45 howled with laughter at the Stan Lee cameo. The youngin's aren't going to 'get it' Stan Lee tribute in the beginning had everyone clapping. Movie plods along a bit slowly at first but there are enough twists to keep it interesting. I hope some characters return at some point. End credits scene directly leads into endgame as expected. It was not as good as Marvel's most recent outings of Black Panther, Infinity War and Homecoming. However, it IS a good movie. Don't forget that just because it is not better than the last installment of the franchise does not make it a bad movie. As I stated to someone on the almighty Facebook, it was quite enjoyable.
