Artists that are really garbage ...(or artists you don't like)

That manga influenced period of the X-Men is almost single handedly the reason why I gave up collecting the first time.  Marvel actually had a decent stable of artists like Adam Kubert and Joe Madureira at the time, but when they wen't anime that was it for me.  I don't know who drew these specimens, but the following represent the nadir of that movement for me.  How you can take a villian as great as Sabretooth and make him look so corny is beyond me.  In 213 and Wolverine 10 he looked killer.  Even Liefeld's New Mutant's version was lightyears better than these.

That Uncanny X-Men #328 is by Joe Madureira. Although Joe Mad has a following, I'm not a fan of his art.

The X-Factors are probably Jeff Matsuda. He was on the book at the time. I love his interior work, but yeah, his covers were often questionable.

Don't forget Travis Charest - a stunning artist who left for Europe, and gets too little love back home.

+1

He started out with a poor Image-like style, with very stumpy-looking figurework, but just got better and better throughout the 90s, soon becoming a quite brilliant artist.

Agreed, I was reading the Batman Knightfall omnibus recently and was taken aback by how bad his early stuff looked (a Liefeld clone, surprisingly), because nowadays he is one of the best and most unique in the business. He does beautiful stuff. You just never know how someone is going to turn out once they find their own way.

Chiang missed the memo that Diana's face was supposed to be beautiful!

Yeah, I really just don't understand his approach with that run at all. Here are a few that are just so bland and mediocre.

Compare those with some of Finch's covers or Frison's covers. Just no comparison IMO. Again, I loved the story during Chiang's run, but the covers and artwork left a LOT to be desired.

Jenny Frison has really come into her own these last couple years. She is easily one of my favorite artists currently working in the comic market and I think her Wonder Woman run has been absolutely brilliant thus far.

Some great artists at the Humanoids imprint; Giraud and Ladronn's work on Incal, and Gimenez and Charest's work on Metabarons.

OH yeah, Ladronn is another good one! I remember when he first hit, I wrote him off as a Kirby-swiping hack. Took me a while to figure out exactly what he had going on. Now I love his stuff.

Finch knows how to draw women! every once in awhile his art can look rushed but overall I think he is great!

Frison has done some beautiful work!

Chiang drew Diana with a man face!
