I'd agree with your statement if it weren't for the entire post including the last statement. That they're going to handle it on a case by case basis.

If it was really "bye bye mystery boxes" - I think Arch would just SAY no mystery boxes. :sumo:

If you are spending more money on something than it's worth ....

I take that to mean if you buy a hundred dollar box and are guaranteed a hundred dollars worth of stuff then you are good. If you get a bonus book then so be it, as long as everyone got what its worth.

If you're spending $100 to get $100 worth of random stuff, you aren't getting your moneys worth.

Well, you are mathematically, but we all know that you are not in reality. There is no way to quantify "What its worth" means other than hard numbers. :(

Yeah, that was my point in the CG thread as well. If you're selling $100 mystery boxes and guaranteeing $100 worth of stuff, nobody is going to buy them unless you include the $500 chase book for a lucky winner - which then makes it a raffle.

If you want to do mystery boxes on the boards, sell boxes where you guarantee the buyers a 2x return on the price - you win because you get to offload a bunch of stuff that would be hard to sell on an individual basis. The buyers win because they actually get their moneys worth.

Mystery boxes ARE still allowed. Just no chase book. So if I say "I have ten boxes, each with one slab from the SA in it, all boxes have a minimum value of $300 and I want $250 per box, all boxes must sell for the deal to go through. Shipping is $12 and will ship only to the US, paypal only" I am completely within the rules. If I say "I have ten boxes with one slab in it, all from the SA. All boxes have a minimum value of $300 and one of the boxes has a mid grade ASM 2. I want $250 per box, all boxes must sell for the deal to go through. Shipping is 12 and will ship only in the US, paypal only." that is NOT allowed because people are buying in the hopes of being the Lucky Winner of the ASM 2

Rules are rules so no more YouTube drawings.

I'm just curious why there's such a disdain for these types of listings. Did I miss some major drama?

No, the discussion stemmed when one member decided to point out in a mystery box sales thread numerous times that it was against the rules. It kind of derailed the guys thread and he didnt understand (understandably in my opinion) why his sales thread was chosen to have it pointed out in while others were not. He felt singled out.

also lotteries and raffles are subject to some VERY specific laws and regulations in many US States. CGC legal would rather not deal with them on their boards.

I still think your Mystery Box sale would be allowed so why don't you let the Mods sort that out. They said they'd handle it on a case by case situation. I feel like your Mystery Boxes are incentive enough (I'll tell you when I get mine :baiting: ), but I don't see anything wrong with in addition to the boxes having random books thrown in like you have done. Arch said specifically that they'd handle it on a case by case situation and *poofed* one or more that were active. They did NOT *poof* your thread.

I say try it out. If they *poof* it, we'll have a definitive answer.

I think it's all about the contents of the boxes. You were very specific in that "there will be a NM #98 and Saga #1" etc. etc. I think people can absolutely show the contents of their boxes. You don't know what you get, but everything is there that you COULD get. Having a big ticket book randomly placed on top - it's still very grey. (shrug)

They're a lottery. Get the proper paperwork filled out and buy a Conner store or a casino. I wouldn't want anything I sell associated with gambling.

Yeah but there was also 16 boxes that got keys and semi keys that weren't advertised at all. So while one person did get CGC 9.8 X Factor 6, one got a raw Walking Dead 1, one hot a Saga 1, and another got a raw New Mutants 98...there were also people that got ASM 194 (one box had two CGC 7.0s in it), and another got like New X Men 128, and another got a raw X Factor 6, and I think I threw like four low grade copies of Marvel Premiere 15 in one box, and raw ASM 361-363 in another. I honestly couldn't tell you who got what at this point but I think I was fair in giving at least FMV on what I sent out.

Please tell me you didn't take that to mean each box would have a Saga 1 and a NM 98?

Unless every box is of equal value greater than that paid I'd be humping the notify button.
