Yeah. Still not the point.

No - the context (and obvious point) is that Morbius's 1.68x budget multiplier after the second weekend was nowhere close to 2x, a point driven home by its still not hitting 2x after another full week, which included a strong holiday weekend.

And The Batman has (indeed, as predicted) squashed Suicide Squad's worldwide total - surpassing $750 million worldwide. Which is a moot point, because it passed Suicide Squad's domestic total long ago.

You're right - Suicide Squad was a horrible film. But it was also a Batman/Joker/Will Smith/Harley Quinn film that was a huge box office success. Full stop.

And ultimately, the numbers will likely show The Batman not only outperformed it, despite a comparable budget - but was more profitable to the studio- given the much higher domestic take and split.

And that's even with Warner Bros. intentionally cannibalizing potential theatrical profits by releasing it to HBO Max early.

Not quite.

$75 million x 2 = $150 million.

Current (estimated) total: $146.42 million.

$146.42 < $150

By your pretzel "logic" it's officially a money maker.  Doesn't matter how many weeks it took to hit 2x, Batman had the benefit of NO competition for the first 3 weeks it was out, and still somehow managed to underwhelm the box office.

Oh, and Batman's 3.7 multiplier, is still below average for all Batman movies, still WELL below the dreadful suicide squad movie from 6 years ago multiplier, still barely even beat that movie's worldwide gross, after several weeks, and still didn't do it if we even the playing field by backing out China

Quite. As we can play the narrative game of "it's really 1.98x" but who has time for that?

Oh...wait.

It's relevant because our esteemed friend @Jaydogrules was noting how close Morbius was to 2x its production budget back on April 10, in his attempt to call Morbius's poor results comparable to those of The Batman.

Both @paperheart and I, using math, have each since noted that Morbius was, in fact, *nowhere near* 2x its production budget on April 10 -- a point underscored by the film's still not being there as of Apr. 21 (and may not even get there this weekend).

Based on a one decimal difference it rounds up to 2.0X. But I see what you two are doing. I'll leave ya to it.

Put a stake in it! Forget about matching the bomb Daredevil's 2003 total ($103 million) or half the total of Into the Spider-Verse ($190 million); this dud might not even hit $75 million.

  9.) Morbius (Sony) 2,306 (-1,156) theaters, Fri $645K (-59%), 3-day $2.2M (-53%), Total $69.1M/Wk 4

All I want to know is, now that this film is "well over" 150MM, 2x, is it a "smash" like the Batman supposedly was at the same multiple ?  (shrug)

...Asking for a logical friend who only expects to see people adhering to a consistent narrative when it comes to their layman analytics.

Not sure you can compare a film that did 2.X in a week and a film that took 4 weeks to finally break that barrier.

But if it gives you comfort...please tell your friend it will be okay. For your friend, that is.

It's velocity, jack-.

2.0x after 10 days is world's removed from 2.0x after 24 days - particularly when the former film cost nearly 3x as much.

Oh - and it's $150 million, not $150,000.

Wait- "velocity" isn't relevant because the statements weren't simply, "this made 2x in only 2 weeks, therefore it is a 'smash''", the statement was "this is officially a 'smash'' at 400MM (2x multiple)"

Oh,  And Batman had NO competition for its first three weekends morbius had tons, including batman.
