Guys, things won’t change until we’re willing to literally give our lives for the cause,

Who’s with us??  Give me slab clarity or give me death!!!

Judging by the response, it's looking like death emb.

But look, it's only 128 voters. Quite reasonable to ignore that.

Isn't it?

The upper management of CGC, made aware of the poll by several lower ranking employees decide not to respond.

Bear that in mind the next time you think of submitting books to them, and cross your fingers that you wont be giving up your hard earned money to have your book visually destroyed by a ridiculous manufacturing design flaw that any reasonable grading company would simply not tolerate.

I must be fair ...

This book arrived today. It has very minimal rings that you can only see if you angle the slab just right. I have no idea if the note that I wrote on the forms made a difference or not ... "Please avoid any newton rings"

Also, I had asked ,via  the 'contact' link, if we could get an official statement from CGC on the matter. This is the response I got...

Hi Mike,

Management is looking into this and we'll be able to provide more information once they have reviewed and discussed this.

Thanks!

According to their database, this book was originally graded 10/31/14.  So you sent it in for a reholder?  When was that, could you say?  And how many books in that submit?  Because books graded on 7/31 were still pretty bad.

So maybe it's production from the first week in August?  Two weeks to reholder, 3 or 4 days to mail back?

Thanks for posting.  The only way we'll know if they're reacting to this is if we see new submits from August moving forward.

I've gotten 6 large submissions back since June. The first 3 were pretty good, the ones from August have been heartbreaking. The first time I really saw the rings was when I got back some SA books. Now I'm seeing them on almost every GA book, right in the center of the slab.

One of the things I'm noticing is that the rings seem to be on the front most of the time, I don't see much on the back, so there must be way to reverse the way the well sits in the holder, or redo the holders.

I hope the top of CGC's list includes hiring a really good plastics engineer and if they had one before, they need to replace that person.

I agree, I recently got a sketch back graded, so it is mostly just a white color cover. It seems to pool in the center on the back that is blank, but on the front it spreads making the sketch look distorted, dirty, and the ink of the sketch looks out of focus.

I hope that it turns out better, as I had another modern that was put into a slab this week. It is due for delivery late next week or should ship monday....I'll try and post results  for everyone :foryou:

I'm sorry to hear that. I recall you saying that you were excited to be sending in comics for certification.

That's funny. I send a note too with some homemade cookies. "No newton rings please :)"

Hi Mike,

Management is looking into this and we'll be able to provide more information once they have reviewed and discussed this.

Thanks!

That's the type of response I've got from multiple sources Mike. So still some hope a message will be forthcoming,  but I can't help but think the decision makers have opted to ride out the storm and stay silent. I'll be the first to thank them however, if they do decide to post a meaningful statement here.

Like many things in life, it's often the way companies manage / respond to problems that gets the bad press and ill feeling going, more so than the actual problem itself.  It would be the easiest thing in the world to post a placeholder message here along the lines of "we hear you and will respond in detail soon while we get our ducks lined up".  Then we all wait for it and give them the benefit of the doubt and hold off continuing to post negative commentary.

Someone somewhere shoulders that responsibility and, to my eyes, that person is letting us all down by staying silent.

When the new London office opens, I want to bring my AF15 and ASM 1-10 up for grading. While this is going on, I don't feel inclined to risk it as the intention is to sell them and if they come back with the rings I may have issues selling as others have noted in the thread. So I really hope this is solved. As Sharon mentioned earlier, switch the case so the rings are on the back. Or recruit a new engineer. Just do something.

Update. I sent this back 2 weeks ago when they agreed to do a no charge re-holder. Previously these "mechanical error" books would show up on the invoice list and jump the line(which they should), and get turned around in 1-2 weeks.

Now they don't even put it on the invoice list, so you can't track it. Also, they are saying it takes the full 25+ business days.

I just don't understand how stuff like this gets past quality control?
