As a kid at Christmas, What toy did you want so bad it kept you up at night? (and did you get it?) 4 4

Watching the Christmas Story the other night it made me think of one Christmas in particular. I think I was about 10. A kid down the street got one of these for his birthday in November. Man, it was cool. Eyes light up, talks, shoots balls and darts, arm moves, he moves around the floor, and at least a half a dozen other features. And it was HUGE at least to a 10 year old. I begged my parents for it and even faked believing in Santa just for extra insurance. Probably cost maybe $30. but with 4 kids and money being tight, I set myself up for heartbreak.

Well the big day arrived. Suffering through, pj's, socks, a board game and a couple other small toys I kept waiting and hoping. Finally, when it was all over and I was trying my best to hide my disapointment, my dad pulled the oldest trick in the book. "Hey son, I think I see something behind the curtains..." There it was, that big box wrapped up. I tore off the paper and there he was Big Loo. At the time, the coolest toy I had ever received.

Anybody else have a similar story? What was your favorite Christmas present as a kid?

I remember asking for a Nintendo, in maybe 86 or 87, maybe even 88 or 89, and thinking that it was too expensive, I mean how could something that controls the TV not be like a million dollars. I was only 5 or 6...

I wasn't really aware of what a Nintendo does, but I asked in good faith anyway! I remember coming in from outside playing and my dad fiddling with the T.V. .... I asked is it time to open presents? him saying that he didn't have time to wrap it good but it's over there if I wanted to take a look. It was just a paper bag that said "new nintendo" draped over a box with colors. I could read then but how does something that costs a million dollars get no big presentation as a gift I thought..... I said really? ripped it open, and was really careful opening the box and nothing was inside, weird I thought, just as I was about to heave a big sob.... my dad turned on the tv and shouted, "It works!" I began to hear a sound that I would not soon forget of Mario bros. and it was a tube telivision that took a minute for the picture to match the sound... I was still in disbelief, then the screen started to move, I choked my tears of joy and asked my dad what I owed him

Mine would have to be the Johnny Seven One Man Army. I remember seeing the commercial every Saturday morning and playing with the display model at the store. I got it for Christmas and played with it nonstop for days. I still have a few of the white bullets.

Pocket watch.  For some reason when I was 10 I wanted a pocket watch badly.  Made sure to stare at them in store window so parents got the message.

My friend's 7 year old daughter wants a tool set.  I find this hilarious.  Her mom has no idea why.

i wanted a mini-bike so bad .. it's not really a toy , and i never got one ... almost feel like going out and buying one right now still

oh well my buddy had one-amazing to be able to travel at will as a 10 year old on the road, fields etc.

i find it hilarious too   now if it was a plastic playschool tool set that would be one thing and that would be ok ,... but a real tool set now that is hilarious

Everyone also had horses tho so transportation was not an issue just go jump on nearest horse, grab mane and kick and you're off-use mane to control direction of travel.

her mom is completely baffled.  She wants a chocolate maker and a tool set.  Last year she wanted coffee and a coffee table, and some hatchimals and posters.
