Going into it with very low expectations and looking at it as a movie on its own, I enjoyed it(shrug)

I give it a 6/10. I'd probably never watch it again but it was better than Frogmanlol

Same experience as well having watched it last night.

  • Was it horrible? Not really.
  • Did it need to be made? That's where Sony is missing the boat so badly is they are throwing some of these films out there without a clear destination.
  • Was this also a victim of 'girl power' backlash? Probably. With the antagonist primarily being a man (there is a female conspirator not thoroughly explained), and four ladies working together to overcome his threat.

With the Ben Parker twist...

Spoiler

Hints to his newborn son being Peter Parker

...that only adds to the confusion where was Sony thinking this was going.

What are the terms of the deal with Marvel for the Spider-Man properties. My guess is that is driving some of these decisions as well. Use the characters or lose them.

Because I'm sure Marvel Studios/Disney is chomping at the bit to get Madame Web back, especially now after this cinematic masterpiece.

The main motivation for Gwenpool not being Gwen Stacy and instead made into a different character altogether by Marvel, so that Sony could be deprived of usage rights.

I watched this on Netflix and i have to say I didn't think it was terrible. Better than Morbius for sure. It did need a script doctor though and the big tease with the 3 spidergirls is silly as there will be no sequel.

This was awful, and yes there are worse things like Morbius, but nothing redeeming in this either that made me want to continue to give it my time after 45ish minutes. The ADR was absolutely overdone and distracting.

I'm hoping to watch it this week since it's free on Netflix.  For those that have watched both - between this and The Marvels which one is worse?

I was actually more disappointed with the Marvels because I had higher expectations, but the plot was a bit less of a mess. I actually thought Dakota Johnson wasn't terrible, but I like her as an actress. Sidney Sweeney was wasted. Madame Web definitely did not feel like a movie with an $80-100 million budget. It felt like 2 episodes of a WB super hero show, maybe one with a bit more effects like Supergirl or Flash. The Marvels felt like a Marvel TV show with 45 minutes of filler fluff added. That it cost $200+ million to make is astonishing.
